I'm just glad that this whole saga is over. Was it annoying anyone else in the end?
So Madrid were stalling, so Barcelona came in as another option for Beckham (probably at the request of Beckham's advisors as well), or to speed up the deal with Real Madrid. SFX and Beckham say they don't want to be used as a pawn in the Presidential race. The press, needing a villain, turn to Man Utd and Ferguson and say they are trying to sell him behind his back when all along Beckham was long gone.
Becks will be remembered as one of United's greatest players and he's done a lot for the club. But he moves on, and now I'm excited at the prospect of next season, and to find out what Ferguson's new plan is. A new beginning, and what seems to be another 'new' team being put together by Ferguson. I wonder who will come into United now, or which youngsters are waiting in the wings if Ferguson has another 'wonderkid'.
I wonder where Beckham will fit in at Real? He's got to be a starter, but if you play him in the middle you'd probably lose his greatest ability, which is crossing. His first touch let's him down too often to play in the middle, and he doesn't have the sort of close control necessary to play that role, which is why Ferguson hasn't played him there. So Figo's going to have to play centrally, or not at all. Why spend £25m on a player when what you really need is a defender. It doesn't make any difference, if they came up against a stout defence like Juve or AC Milan, Real will still lose because they will be cancelled out and picked off on the counter.
Let's be honest, United were becoming a bit stagnant in recent years and allowed teams like Arsenal to catch them up a bit. Beckham hasn't reached the same sort of for he showed around 1999, I mean very few goals (the only one I can remember is against Everton on the last day of the season) from a free-kick in the league this year and 1 goal direct from a corner. But you can't deny his effort and ability on the pitch. Maybe United are selling him at the right time?
I do hope though that United have put the deal in place and Real will not chase any interest in Ronaldinho now, but who's to say if he will move to Man Utd anyway.
I've also heard, off subject slightly, that Arsenal will not be getting Kewell because they cannot meet his £70K a week wage demands. Well, if they did it might p old Patrick Vieira off a bit anyway.
Well, I think that the sale of Beckham will eventually strengthen the Man Utd team. It's a bit sad when you see a player who has come up through the youth system as a fan of the club leave, but that happens.
