We simply can't compete with teams which have had two full months of preseason although we played our best lineup plus Elber. 1860 were the much better side, their players are in much better shape.

Magath said one can't expect anymore than that at the moment, we somehow have to manage to collect as many points as possible in August. Then there's three weeks between matchday 3 and 4 so we should be at a decent level by mid September - around the start of the CL.

Hoeness has stated this season is an experiement to go the cheaper way and rely on the current players and own talents. This way there's not as much pressure on the team as in the past. It's the ultimate chance for players like Karimi, Santa Cruz, Deisler and dos Santos to show they're good enough and for others like Schweini or Hargreaves to take the next step and become a team leader instead of a random squad player.
If this experiment fails a lot players will be cut and the club will spend big time on reinforcements next season.

Ok, I guess I can deal with that. Worst case scenario we do poorly in the Bundesliga, but a few of our players emerge as big time stars. I'm looking at Hargreaves, Lahm, and Schweinsteiger.

I don't like the purple kit, and the purple shorts make it look even worse to me. Definitely won't be buying one of those.

I agree, but we would NEED to buy a replacement. I think we could probably be okay until January, but someone major would have to come in during the break. A platoon of Basti, Deisler, Dos Santos, Podolski, Santa Cruz, and perhaps Karimi could handle the position until then.

Well the obvious choice is Tim Borowski. Maybe we could sell Makaay to Hamburg for 8M, Hargreaves for 25M+ and then try to get Borowski and Klose together for a combined 40M or so.

Ah, Bremen would turn 40 million into at least four great players.

Players like van der Vaart, Sneijder, Moutinho etc. should be available for 20-25M.
