avoiding release clause on free transfers

Everytime a player is 6 months away from his contract ending, I try to give him a contract but it costs me so much in release clauses...

Whenever a team offers my player that is valued 900k a contract 6 months away from expiring they get him for $0!!!

Do I have to add a release clause when giving the contract? Because I always get ripped like this.:(

You're getting things a bit mixed up. When a player is 6 months away from his contract expiring you get him for zero. But there are the unprotected contracts, in those ones you have to pay compensation, that looks like your case.

So if a player has 6 months left till it expires, and I sign him. Will his release clause be applied to the transfer?

When I look at the player page it does not say Blackpool-$0... it says Blackpool-$release clause fee.

This is annoying me. Am I doing the contract wrong?

The release clause is how much another team can pay and you have to automatically accept the bid. The other club gets your player because he has 6 months left on his contract and gets to leave for free at the end of his contract because of the Bosman Ruling. There are some exceptions though, if a player is young, then compensation must be payed. A recent ruling means that after a certain amount of time under one contract a player's contract is unprotected and therefore can agree to a contract with another club, and compensation will have to be paid to the players current club.

Your player is leaving for free on a Bosman. You probably have had to pay compensation because 1) you are getting young players (under 21 I think) and teams must be compensated for them, or 2) you are getting players who are "unprotected", which means their contract is not going to end soon, so the player must be purchased

It doesn't get much clearer than that, so I really hope you understand.

Sorry for the double post, but here's as clear as it gets.

The only way to get a player is to purchase him from his club.

If his contract is old (3 years I think), he can be signed, but the club must be paid for him.

If a player does not have a contract, you are free to sign them.

If a player has only 6 months left on his contract, he can be signed (AT THE END OF HIS CONTRACT) for nothing, but the terms can be agreed to starting at the 6 month deadline.

If a you sign a player this way, but they are young (under 21 I think) the club will get a SMALL compensation.

extra:

After 3 years of a contract of a player under 28 the contract becomes unportected and can be signed with a small fee in compensation.

After 2 years of a contract of a player above 28 the contract becomes unprotected, same rules as above.

It can be that the contract is 6 months away from expiring AND is older than 3 years. Then you can sign him on a free and with a small compensation. You can change this by changing the transfer date. (you can choose between immediate and end of contract, if you choose immediate you have to pay compensation)
