Australia completely dominated the game, and show that they can indeed be up there as a world soccer power.

With wins against Scotland, Brazil, France, and the recent draw with the world no.1's, France (should have won due to the clear penalty not awarded at the end), and now this 1-0 win, I think it shows that Australia is certainly up there with a chance.

One more game to go...
Go the Aussies!!!

LOL I think you will find that if Australia make it to the WC and play the best teams in a 'competitve' comepetiton you will find they have no chance whatsoever and are soccer minnows and always will be, stick to Rugby, no one else cares about that.

it's not my fault Australia have some of the best sportsmen in the world.

Best at rugby, best at league, best at tennis and now no.1 player, best at cricket, no.1 female golfer... shall I continue? Or does no-one care about those sports either?

I think bad sports like you should keep yer mouth shut and let the rest of us enjoy all sports in good spirits.

As an Aussie living in Europe, where let's face it, soccer rules, I believe that Australia has the goods to make it to the top.
However, having the goods is not always enough. Beeing able to play more games with the side who won against Uruguay today is a key to having a competitive team. You can have great players, and Australia does, but if they can't play together, no way we'll make it big.

I believe we can beat Uruguay though, and honestly, with more favorable conditions, like the ones we have for the Wallabies in rugby, Australia can become a regular team in the World Cup and on the World soccer scene.

Till this weekend and the moment of truth, GO AUSTRALIA !!!

I really don't think 1 goal is sufficient for Australia to qualify. Now they will go to Montevideo and very likely Uruguay will tie or make 2 goals. It is not that easy..too bad both teams can't go.

You know your scraping the bottom of the barrel when you have to quote tennis ( a nancy boys sport if ever there was one) and female golfers.

You have two really top players and thats its, both Leeds players, but wake up, do you know how tough it is at the top in football? you just don't have the pedigree, the history or the culture to be big guns in football, stick to Rugby and Cricket.

I agree, 1 goal wont be enough in Uruguay, you can continue this conversation when you qualify for the world cup after the Uruguay game right?

That's a good point. I still think they can go through but they will have a tough 2nd leg and 1-0 may not be enough. Should be a good game though. Good luck to both teams.

uruguay must win...come on..just look at australia´s position in the fifa world ranking...i think australia has an easy but at the same time hard WC qualification...coz they can easily beat those crappy ocenia teams,but instead of qualifyng directly they have to face the 5th south american team..and obviously south american teams are much better...

But football? The US has a better chance, no offense...

Australia does have fine Athletes, but to tell you the truth at the moment! we are not a footbal country yet, we had wins over all these teams yes. And we did Sort of dominate Urguay but think about this, we are playng them at home, a football crazed country, Everyones already talking about us 'Australia' in the world cup... lets just see what happens next game, just dont get your hopes up people! its a hard task...

Sure i am happy that Australia won and i hope and think that they will get into the World Cup, but to be honest, i reckon we will shat our pants and struggle in the group stage.
And on another point, football is football. There's no point sayin we're number one in all these other sports when we're talkin about football here.
