ATI vs Nvidia?

very common question, and very silly tbh. The answer is none and both, at the same time. For example Ati's 9x00 series were ahead performance and quality-wise, compared to Nvidia and the FX series. Now the Xx00 series by Ati has a small diasadvantage overall compared to the 6x00 series by Nvidia..., till the new x850 showed up, that is faster than any Nvidia gfx card out there. Also nvidia supports the latest Pixel shader technicques, while ATi isnt (tho u wont notice any real diff in the games that will suport the latest PS in the future) If you want the best/fastest gfx card avaliable, no matter what the cost, go ATi, if you want something cheaper ATM, go Nvidia. That for now, in 5-6 months... things will be completely different. It's a war out there, and its hard to keep up with ATi and Nvidia and all their new moves.

Depends on the price of the card. I've always bought nVidia cards because they've offered the best price/performance when I've bought a new GFX card. (only 3, the GeForce -> Geforce 2 -> 6600GT)

I'd happily buy an ATi card. Hopefully I'll update again when the next generation cards from both firms are released (ATi should have a brand new architecture this time, its looking interesting right now on the ATi front) and again I'll see who offers the best price/performance.

Both companies are good, it's like AMD<>Intel.

i've got a Tyan radeon which is majorly overclockable and thats why i got it and that's why i'd usually go for ATI - which tend to have better overclocking abilities.

Although i did have a Geforce 2 mx400 that was as solid as a rock :p

i wish ATi would fix their drivers and a good cp. Not like the one now which needs 100 mb ram to be stand by.

Both are of equal status in my opinion...Nvidia provides good product warranty and is more easier to update the drivers while ATI provides good performance..;)

both are equal since both have thier pro's and cons. So u actually can't say since nvidia works better with nfs type games and ati with hl-2 .

Well you can, the GeForce 6 series are better than the X8x0 series at Doom 3, the X8x0 series are better than the GeForce 6 series at HL2 :p

well then get x800xt or pro. About same price and better than 6800.
X850XTPE 512 ownage for nvidia. Plus now there will be Ultra HIgh detail available for Doom3 and nvidia will lose one of the games they going well. (especially if ati improves opengl drivers)

Except that nVidia have 2 partners producing a 512mb version of the 6800Ultra.

In the UK, THe 6800Ultra is ~£400 incl. vat, and the X850XT/XTPE are about the same :(
