Roma close in on Real Madrid fullback Cicinho

Roma are closing in on a deal for Real Madrid fullback Cicinho.
The former Roma director general, Franco Baldini, has spoken with the capital club about a loan deal for the Brazil international in January. Baldini is now part of Real's technical team.

Roma are keen, particularly with on-loan Brescia defender Gilberto Martinez struggling with injury problems.

would be a weird move. Martinez is a super WB.

but as far as Im concerned, a good move for Serie A in general. Italy's gotta attract the stars again.

Roma coach Spalletti confirms Pizarro fine

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has confirmed David Pizarro will be fined for his strop after being substituted on Saturday night against Livorno.
"Pizarro must understand that in this group there is a set of rules," said Spalletti. "He broke one in the last game and this is not good for squad morale.

"He will therefore be fined by the club."

Pizarro is understood to have addressed the squad yesterday in Trigoria apologising for his actions.

If I remember well he received a yellow card.

i believe he has a slight injury that he picked up in training. that is also the reason why he wasn't in the line-up on the weekend.

Agent: Roma deal likely for Real Madrid's Cicinho

Real Madrid's Italian agent Enzo Bronzetti has confirmed Cicinho was offered to Roma over the summer.
"In the last few days of the transfer market I spoke to Luciano Spalletti and director Daniele Prade' about Cicinho," revealed agent Bronzetti, who regularly works with Real Madrid.

"We reached an agreement to take him on loan, but the problem was that Real wanted to make a permanent sale and cash in about £7m. Now he's still in Spain and can't play, as Fabio Capello isn't interested. I hope he doesn't field him in the Champions League, as that could block a January move."

Spanish newspapers suggest that a deal for the switch to be completed in January, this time on loan, has been agreed upon by the two clubs.

"Cicinho is an attacking wide player who scored 17 goals two years ago and on Sunday he immediately set up Antonio Cassano's goal after coming on as a substitute," continued Bronzetti.

"I am very fond of Roma and respect their staff. I also received offers from Fiorentina and Inter for Cicinho, but I pushed for him to join the Giallorossi. I didn't even need to, as he had fallen in love with their fans when he came here to play as an opponent."

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti admits the 4-0 scoreline against Shakhtar Donetsk was slightly unfair on their Ukrainian opponents.

The Italian outfit ran out comfortable winners at the Stadio Olimpico, although they were made to work hard for the win.

Shakhtar were by far the better side in the first half but failed to convert any of the chances and Roma would make them pay in the second half.

Spalletti was full of praise for the Ukrainian champions but was delighted with his side's attitude after the break.

"Although the result says 4-0, it has been a difficult match because our opponents are a really good side," Spalletti said.

"At the beginning we suffered a lot, but then my team gave mature signals and in the second half we have probably exaggerated the result, even if we deserved this win."

Pizarro thanks Roma coach for second chance

David Pizarro thanked Roma coach Luciano Spalletti for giving him a second chance after his star cameo in last night's 4-0 whitewash of Shakhtar Donetsk.
Pizarro, who was dropped to the bench after reacting angrily to being taken off on Saturday, turned the game as a late substitute last night.

"I was desperate for an evening like this to redeem myself," said the Chilean. "I was wrong on Saturday and I am grateful to Spalletti for this new chance.

"Fortunately the anger I had was transformed into positive energy. We hope to go as far as we can in Europe, but must keep our feet on the ground."

Good to hear he understood he's fault and apologized. Also I'm glad that Spalletti gave him a second chance and David made the most of it. (C)

We’ll surprise, says De Rossi Wednesday 13 September, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniele De Rossi believes that Roma can be major protagonists of the Italian and European game this season.

The Giallorossi hero made the statement this afternoon after last night’s stunning 4-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk.

“We are aiming to be the revelation of 2007,” stated the midfielder. “What you saw last night is the real Roma and we want similar results in the future.

“We deserved yesterday’s win, although 4-0 was maybe too severe for our opponents,” said the world champion, who scored the third goal against the Ukrainian side.

“Last year was very useful for us as we learned a lot and we are now a more balanced team. It’s now time to keep our focus.

“What can we win? It’s maybe a little too early to say we can win the Scudetto,” noted the 23-year-old. “We will have to wait and see how things go…

“But I think we proved on Tuesday that we are willing to suffer and fight for the victory as all Champions League matches are difficult and require concentration.”

The Azzurri midfielder was also impressed with David Pizarro’s performance and is content with Roma’s summer signings.

“Pizarro was decisive in the match with Shakhtar, he was determined to make up for his performance with Livorno and proved that he was an excellent buy,” he underlined.

“We didn’t need Ronaldinho or Steven Gerrard, the club’s summer market was well planned and based on the team’s needs.”

De Rossi was also asked to comment on Francesco Totti’s desire to be left out of the national team for the immediate future.

“I am glad Totti scored his first goal at the Olimpico last night after injury,” added the youngster. “He is an absolute protagonist of Italian football and he has nothing left to prove.

“The Nazionale is a very united group and Francesco’s decision to continue or not depends only on him.

“I don’t think he is being disrespectful towards us or the Coach by taking his time,” said the midfielder, referring to Massimo Oddo’s latest outbursts.

“Only the player and [boss Roberto] Donadoni know how to solve this issue, the best thing for the rest of us is just to stay out of it.”

I think the same. We must just keep hard working and do not disregard the opponents. Then the results will come themselves.

Chivu set for Roma stay
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cristian Chivu is set to extend his contract with Roma, his agent Andrea Pretti confirmed on Wednesday.

The Romanian is currently tied to the Giallorossi until the summer of 2008 and was linked with a move away earlier this summer, when he was a transfer target for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter and Milan.

“I see no problems in the renewal of Chivu’s contract,” said the defender’s agent to a local television network.

“I saw Roma’s sporting director Daniele Pradè on August 31, but we didn’t set a date for a further meeting,” added Pretti.

“I will call him next week, so we can finally close the issue. Central defenders have a high value and they are not easy to find, but Cristian has clearly said that he wishes to stay with Roma.

“All the rumours suggesting he will move are bothering him a lot.”

Pretti is also the agent of Damiano Tommasi, who moved to Spanish side Levante after 10 seasons with the capital city club last month.

“The fact that I am also Damiano’s agent does not influence my relationship with Roma,” he noted.

“I am a professional and I only act for the good of my player. In this case, my client wants me to work to keep him here.”

Chivu landed in Rome in 2003 after a four-season spell with Ajax and has since then played 75 Serie A matches, netting six goals.
-------------------------------------------

i have to say, that management, right now is doing a great job locking up our key positional players for years to come. we are set in the back, we have our core in the midfield and of course our rock upfront.

spalletti has a plan in motion to make roma great, one piece at a time.
