Well according to some news

UEFA has set a high benchmark for artificial turf pitches to encourage manufacturers of such playing surfaces to raise their own standards as football heads into the future.

Well like the Forum itself says on the main page, "The place to talk about every aspect of the world game.", this well and truly indeed does qualify as an aspect. , Or maybe I'm just saying that to annoy you all hehe.

ugh. i hate artificial turf. I get to play an it on Friday too. Luckily I'm the keeper, so i have a long sleeved jersey, but i still have to caot my knees with Vaseline, to avoid burns.

I dont know how there are going to do it the ball will bounce more like a basketball. And From experience playing field hockey on this stuff and having to be called of for the blood rule i dont know how this will work. If im going off the field with bloody knees in hockey it will be much worse in soccer

Here in Ottawa and in other places in Southern Ont., we have this pretty amzing 'turf' which feels like real grass. They have it at the renegrade's (american) football stadium. In the winter they place a huge dome over the whole field, which allows for winter soccer leagues. Its pretty expensive but really popular.

Anyways, the turf is an expensive design that cost a couple million to install. It uses finely ground rubber like almost sand to soften the ground and a thick bristles which looks and feels like real grass.

This is prolly what fifa/uefa are gonna test out (or something similar). They've had a int. soccer tourny a few years ago and the players were surprised how good the surface was.

Dunfermline in the SPL are using this new surface for the first time this weekend, FIFA seem to think this is the way to go and have picked Dunfermline out of all the teams in the world to be the first to test it out in competitive matches.

Gramanet from spanish second division B has been playing in this surface for 2 or 3 years.

In the spanish cup they have had to play with big teams such as Deportivo and Valencia. In both cases these big teams refused to play on that surface and the match had to be played in another stadium.

Next week Gramanet is playing with Barcelona in the Spanish cup. The match will be be played on artificial turf.

a few months ago Mexico played Bolvia on artificial turf and it sucked. The ball bounced really high, it rolled really fast and the cleets couldnt really grip onto the turf.

I think the new turfs are much more like grass then the stuff you see on field hockey pitches. Montreal in the CFL has a new artificial field and the players say its very close to grass. I would think its a good product if you can get pro athletes to like it.

I hope you poeple know that they are not talking about that rock hard astro turf we use here in the states, its more like an artificial grass.

denizlispor who went and lost to porto last year in the uefa cup are also one of the chosen. but why all these mediocre teams of the lagues what if they get relegated?

they are just testing the turf first to see if everyone will accept it and to see if there is no increase in injuries. The clubs in the test get the turf for free, and it doenst matter if they get relegated. Thats not the point of the testing.

ipswich were one of only about four countries in the world to have the new field turf put in and i hav been on it and it is just like playing on normal grass except its the same in all conditions! i dunno wot all this is bout high bounce and crap.

IMO if the big players have to play on the Astro Turf like "Fake Grass" that i had to play on during my HS teams Semi's last year then they are screwed because it really sucks, you get burns, and its like your playing on a carpet though maybe if they work on it harder it might be ok

I've seen it on the TV and it does look a bit like a doormat but they were bouncing the ball on it and shit and it didn't seem to do any harm. Dunfermilne are playing on it this weekend though and that's when we'll really find out.
