It would count. To put it simply : Pires rolls to Henry - Play one - , Henry shoots to the goal - Play two - . The rules say a penalty must be converted in two "plays" if i'm not mistaken. Like, you shoot, keeper saves it, and the ball goes in, it's a goal. But you shoot, keeper saves it, it hits the post, hits his back and goes in : no go. I read that somewhere, and in some TV show some guys were saying that France's penalty against Brazil in 86 wouldnt count as a goal today, because the GK saved it, it hit the post, hit his back and then went in.

Anyway, i'm 100% sure it would count, although my explanation was rather pish.
That can't be possible. Maybe in penalty shoot-outs at the end of the game, but during regular time, you can make as many plays as you want, like hit the post, then the keeper from a rebound and then another post from a rebound and then into the net, it will still count. For Cruyff goal, he rolled it to the other guy and the guy passed it back to Johan to score, that's 3 plays like you say it, but it still was legimiate.

I haven't bothered reading all the other posts- as the ones I see on this page are quite crazy. I'm just pissed at David James. There was no way he really needed to come out like that, with that sort of angle it would have been quite hard to score. A really useless challenge and a stupid risk. :nape:

I dont get that. How is it disrespectful?
City players    , unless you give them the ball on a silver plate, then it's fine, everything else is disrespectful.

Nope. If you hit the post and the ball comes right at you, and you kick it again, the ref will whistle for a "foul" and the possesion goes for the other team. I saw a goal ruled off in this situation like, some years ago in the Brazilian league. The post is neutral, so when you hit the post and the ball gets back to you and shoot it, it's like "passing the ball to yourself".

And like i said, i think the rules werent like they are today when it comes to the topic we are discussing. If it was today, the goal wouldnt count methinks. Anyway, why are we discussing this, i mean, Pires is a sissy. You wont roll for someone to shoot on a penalty, it's legal, but come on?!

Be a man and shoot the ****en ball... :lui:

I remember at World Tour in America, Man utd vs Milan penalty shootout, someone shoot hit the post and hit Howard at the back and went in. Or are you just talking about penalties in game time?

so is there an exact rule stated how penalty should be taken?

i think Ljunberg penalty in EURO is the same? he hits the post and hit the keeper at the back and went it, it still count

Yea but in that case it's 2 plays, the shot and the ball hitting the GK in his back, as the post doesnt count. In my explanation you can see the situation is different: shot, save, THEN post, ball hits GK's back and goes in. :)

HAHA no doubt we are some cocky bitches...... but no other team in the EPL would have the balls to try and pull this off.... maybe next time it will work..... im sure we'll try it in one of our blow out games leadin 6-0 or sumthin

I rewatched the highlights and the penalty moment. The ball moved when Pires put his foot over it. So the ref got that right but I don't understand why he gave a free-kick. Is it for a push by Henry? Or maybe something else?

I read/heard somewhere that the ref thought Pires actually touched it twice.

Yes. Apparently in the ref's post match report he blew because he thought Pires toiuched twice. There was another thing wrong with the peno though. From any spot kick the ball has to move at least one circumfrence's worth. The ball didn't in that case.

because it made us look like we were to good to score the second penalty and that we didn't need to do a regular one- i think thats it? not quite sure though.

Somehow, I dont think thats where the annoyance of City players stems from. The nature of the pen was disrespectful in itself, as they tried to be "fun" at the other teams expensive/embarrassment when they could have been professional and just put it home.

You can easily find every rule in FIFA Laws of the Game. I have read and studied the rules of penalty before when that "Ajax penalty" video was posted everywhere.

I dont think that the ref should give City an indirect fk because both City's and Gunners' players went inside the 10-yard area before Pires(taker) touches the ball.(and he has never touched the ball)

If Pires kicks the ball forward and after he touches the ball, Henry goes and get the ball, that would be absolutely legal and Henry can shoot or pass back the ball to Pires providing that Pires is onside. In the rules, pk taker has to kick the ball forward. He can shoot if directly to the goal like a direct freekick and he can also pass the ball(forwardly) like an indirectly fk.
