DAmm....

Juve are out.....

i didn't expect much...as they were playing in Germany...without Del Piero , Thuram , Davids , Iuliano etc etc.......all either injured or suspended,,,

I take it as a blessing...so that Juve can concentrate on the SerieA and Coppa Italia....

Shame on Arsenal letting Depor win at Highbury though.....At least Juve put up a better show at Delle Alpi last time....

hmmm.......now i think Depor and Bayer will go thru from this group

Arsenal need a victory at Turin...and Bayer need one at Caruna

I think Depor having already qualified will not be at full strength and will let Bayer take more than a point...

while at Turin , i don't see Arsenal getting more than a draw.....

In Champions' league competition, there is always a surprise
team wins in any matches. Every club seems to chase the
winning money for every match & qualifications.

If Depor beat Bayer, Arsenal are through regardless of the result at turin......

Depor will want to beat Bayer, because they lost 3-0 last time, because you never know bayer might meet them in the finals and end up beating them again, so I think Depor will like to win that game, but obviously they don't need to.

The team that runs riot at this stage doesn't win the competition, someone quitely building often takes the crown or someone who struggles.

That result sucked, Depoo suck, they are just one of these 'flavours of the month', sides that hang around for a few years before disappearing from the scene, they haven't got any established tradition at all.

However there is some interesting permutations.

Depor are thru, while Juve are all but out

For Juve to go thru
Depor must beat Bayer
Juve must beat Arsenal by at least 3 clear goals or win 2-0

For Bayer to go thru
Bayer go thru by beating Depor, regardless of the Juve/Arsenal match (Depor picked up 6 against Arsenal, Bayer picked up 6 points against Depor but Arsenal picked up only 4 points against Bayer. They also go thru by getting a better result than Arsenal

For Arsenal to go thru
Arsenal need a better result, but if they and Bayer both draw then Arsenal, as a result of having a better record over the 2 games with Bayer, go thru. If Arsenal and Bayer both lose but Arsenal only lose by 1 goal, or lose 4-2 then Arsenal will have a better record than both Bayer and Juve.

But if Juve win 3-1, and Bayer lose, then I think goal difference would count as both Arsenal and Juve would have better records than Bayer but identical reords against each other. Actually it doesn't as they would have EXACTLY the same goal difference, goals scored and conceded, so lots would be drawn to determine who goes thru out of Juve and Arsenal.

Depor need to avoid defeat to Bayer to win the group, so they shold field a decent side. they wouldn't want to face Real (even thought they beat them, Real will be really fired up for revenge)

I went to watch several Deportivo's games 12 years ago when we were in the second division and I know someday this could happen again, so let us enjoy these moments of glory

Forget a missed penalty by Thierry Henry and a disallowed goal from Kanu, Arsenal were comprehensively beaten by a better team, their first defeat at Highbury against European opposition since September 1996. Deportívo stroked the ball around so lovingly that it was obvious they hated the idea of losing it. The masters of the slide-rule pass, the delicate touch and the blur of movement, they deserved to win by more than the two goals scored by Juan Carlos Valerón and Nourredine Naybet.

Bayern Munich or Roma, and possibly Real (who beat them 3-1 in La Liga in February), will be too much for Depor.

Depor played a great game last night. The result was fair, Arsenal had a couple of good chances, but the boys from La Coruna always seemed to have everything in control.
Depor has been great this season: they are title contenders in the CL and in their home championship. Underestimating them at this point of the competition is a mistake that will have high costs to those who commit it.

Most of you have never been to La Coruna, so it's easy to see them as "flavours of the month". The city and the region itselves are growing in economical and political relevance, and Depor is their flag. The club's growth has been very consistent (like Boavista, btw), they also have a good fan base, so I'll think they'll stick around for a bit longer. ;)

Boavista just shot out of nowhere, like Depor, a few years ago i thought Depor might eventualy win La Liga, but not in 2000, they like Boavista, like Leeds were growing, but they didn't look like establishing themselves, i thought Depor might be one of those sides who end up selling their world rated players, like Rivaldo. They have a lot of older players in their side such as Donato and Mauro Silva, so they might struggle to maintain standards when they leave.

I know both Boavista and Depor cases very well. The first because it's a club from my town and the second because my region shares a lot of affinities with Galicia. Now I saw both teams growing, taking small steps at a time.
Boavista has been rising for more than 10 years now. A very established growth, btw. They spent 4 years in a row achieving 3rd/4th places in our championship. Then they started battling for the title and getting good results in UEFA competitions. Last year they finally won it and are doing very well in the CL.
They are also building their stadium...
Their strength is the excellent players they dig out for small prices. To name a few: Nuno Gomes, João Pinto, Jimmy (the Chelsea guy), Silva and Duda, etc.

My point is both teams didn't take huge steps (unlike Parma and Torino), it was more of an established growth. For all of you that didn't follow their career it seems like the opposite, since you've never heard of them and now here they are, getting good results against the best of the best. You'll get over it in 5 years. :D

Depor had a first wave 8 years ago and Bebeto was our flag, they won a Spanish Cup, a SuperCup (the game between Liga and Cup winners) and they didn't win a Liga because a missed penalty in the last minute of the last game of the season.
Rivaldo came here when Bebeto came back to Brazil, he played one season and he was bought by Barcelona, we didn't sell him. In Spanish Liga every player has a amount of money in his contract, if another team pays it and the player agrees you can't do anything.
In the team that won the Spanish Cup there are only 2 players of the "first wave", Mauro Silva and Fran. They are old, as Donato, but Valeron, Tristan, Victor, Cesar, Sergio, Dusher or Scaloni are young and all of them have long contracts; our president don't like to sell our best players, I only remind him selling an important player, Flavio Conceicao, to Real Madrid for a lot of money. So it won't be difficult to see the core of this team staying here for some years.
Can you tell the same about Arsenal stars?

At the minute Spain is going thru a kind of transition, Depor won the title when the rest of the sides were either building or declining, but note Arsenal scored more points than Depor and played the same number of games.

This years La Liga is really close, I think Valencia should win the title, they've been to 2 european finals, and haven't won the title since 1971. personally i'd like to see Bilbao win the title as they have a very talented first XI, but it doesn't seem likely that will happen. If not Valencia then Real Madrid, but not Depor, they've won too much too soon.

well you saying they completely suck is very dumb no team goes on to beat juventus real madrid and arsenal in 2 weeks of time and completely sucks ...
