Argentina's Squad...

:nape: I just saw the Argentinian Squad that is headed to Germany....I cannot believe it! I have never been a BIG fan of Pekerman...and I definately am not learning to like him especially after not calling up some players for this World Cup. I always supported Bielsa, and he was doing wonders with the squad in the qualifying campaign before 02..yes they struggled in the WC, but they had the hardest group and it could have been a fluke because before he "resigned" (BS! They made him...), Argentina was doing very well again in the qualifying campaign.

I have every reason to believe El Loco Bielsa could have gone just as far as Pekerman's squad will go in this World Cup.

Pekerman is crazy though. He doesn't call up Walter Samuel nor Javier Zanetti. Two very solid players (I still believe Samuel is a Top Defender..) who have WC experience..which is something this squad lacks. Read the article...how Zanetti isn't called up is unexplainable. Samuel is understandable because people feel he has fallen off...but I just do not understand the Zanetti move. Both should have been called up IMO.

There are players who can fill in..Coloccini, Heinze, Milito etc.

But come on..Zanetti played for the NT in both the 98 and 02 WC. He is not only a speedy defender, but he can also be used as a quick midfielder who can create dangerous plays down the flanks. Pekerman is unbelievable..

Like I said, Samuel is understandable as many people do believe he isn't what he once was (I disagree)...but he does have WC experience..something this squad lacks.

Look how many potential starters and key players have LITTLE (some have no WC experience!). Riquelme, Saviola, Tevez, Coloccini, Heinze, Mascherano, Messi, Abbondanzieri (the starting GK for crying out loud!)

This team could very well choke just like the 02 squad did that was filled with veterans (I think it was a mixture of a fluke/bad luck/tough draw). I think they can overcome the odds though. This is one of my Top 3 NT that I root for, but with the decisions being made, I wouldn't be surprised to see them not do as well as expected.

EDIT - As a matter of fact...all the players I named that have "little" WC experience..have NO World Cup experience. Between all those players...they have appeared in 0 World Cup game! Those are 8 players...1/3 of the team..and that is just naming the key players. There are others with no WC experience that I don't think will contribute that much. Oh my god, the mistake Pekerman is making....

Just my 0.02....

You Pick your best team not the team with the most experience

I think you just summed up what I tried to say with a couple of paragraphs, lol :rockman:

Im glad Zanetti isnt in, IMO he wouldve killed Robben. Now Robben actually has a chance to play a role in the match.

That 23 is not the best 23 IMO. El Pato has never been a "star" to me. He seems like he will choke and cost us big time when it counts. And the thing about Bielsa..I am sure they made him quit....the team wasn't struggling when he stepped down....

A question to Argentinian fans, will Colocini start in most of Argentinas games?

He better do as hes in my fantasy team *shakes fist*.

Pato had a tough time when Angola attacked 2-3 times the other day (Fumbled a ball + grabbed the ball out of the area for a yellow card). I think he could be Argentina's downfall ....but well see (He might play the best he ever did)

But if you see teams hitting shots from 20-30 yards, itll show that we are not the only ones who doubt his skills at a World level.

Besides that, ARgentina is fine. Pekerman is no fool and he brought what he needed to bring. The time to Argue about the selection is over and now it's time to support the NT cause he's not going to change the list anymore.

I also wanted to see Agüero in the World Cup. It's sad that he wasn't called because this guy has lots of talent to show, at least for the last 15 minutes as a substitute. In this case, it happened the same with that Maradona in '78 World Cup.

Pienso que Pekerman no lo quiso quemar antes de tiempo, en caso no le vaya bien a Argentina.

Sorry, I didn't know how to say that in english (if anyone could help me with the translation, thanks) :p ... But besides that, Argentina has a good enough team to lead its group and be the champion.

I still wonder how influential was the media regarding the Zaneti's boycott, and Ibarra's overhype.
I believe that's why he took Cufre.:p

Regarding the starting line-up matter, today the national team played a 30 minutes halves match against the U20 and the team was the the same that started against Angola, those players won 3-0, Crespo and Saviola scored, then Cruz scored when he came out from the bench.

I agree with you when they defend, but when they attack I think it will be more like this:

-------------------------------Pato---------------------------------

-----Burdisso-----------Ayala------------Heinze--------------Sorin--

----------------Mascherano--------------Cambiasso-----------------

-----------------Messi----------------------Riquelme/Aimar----------

----------------Crespo----------------------Tévez------------------

Can any of you fellow Argentines tell me if I am much off? jeje
