math was my best subject in high school but I haven't touched it since entering University... well actually I took biomechanics last year and taking a more advanced one this year... I'm so ****ed because I didn't even understand that question :(

P = E² R / (R + r) (R + r)

P = E² R / R² + R r + R r + R²

P = E² R / R (R + r + R + r)

P = E² / 2 R + 2 r

That is as far as i got i am not sure if 2 R + 2 r = 4 r though it doesn't make sense since R is variable and r is fixed. :eek:

It's calculus dude, this doesn't help in any way.

Damn, I used to be a wiz at this crap (this is pretty easy calc if I'm not mistaken), but I haven't taken a class in over 5 years now.

isn't it awesome when you're studying off past exams, memorize some questions and they end up being on your exam too? (H)

Yeah but, your mum.

Don't even try coming back (H)

You can only come back to a your mum statement with another one. And I thought it'd be pertinant to put in a more topical variation :$

Haha not a problem. 1 for the SG community, 0 for the people who set the exams (H)

So, did Newton "find" calculus or "create" it?

I think it was probably a combination of both, given that maths is essentially a man-made discipline or language used to quantitatively describe natural phenomena. The links were there to be discovered (like discovering pi, e etc) but they had to generate how to differentiate/integrate by themselves.

Leibnitz didn't do a bad job either!

heheh :$

sorry, last minute problem, exam is in less than 12 hours! :|

Here goes:

A leaky 10-kg bucket is lifted from the ground to a height of 12 m at a constant speed with a rope that weighs 0.8 kg/m. Initially the bucket contains 36-kg of water, but the water leaks out at a constant rate and finishes draining just as the bucket reaches the 12 m level. How much work is done?

Answer is 3857 J. Cant seem to get it! :(:(:(

Dave the mathematical master, please help.
