Any help on a conservative 4-2-3-1?

Basically I'm trying to emulate the real life Bayern tactic:

Deep defensive line, attacking fullbacks, two central mids who sit back, win the ball, and keep possession, focus passing out wide to wingers who cut in, but the wingers also have some defensive responsibilities, hard working "defensive forward" who continually presses the opposition defense, and a hard working AM who moves into channels and pressures the opposition DM.

I got to a point where my team was playing pretty close to the Bayern style (I was using Bayern), but the problem is it's almost impossible to score goals. Olic and Muller can't get to crosses, Ribery can't really do anything, and Robben is a shadow of his real life self. Any suggestions? It's not like I was losing to good teams either, I was losing all of my friendlies like 2-0 to really ****ty teams. I'm not sure this formation can work in FM, which sucks because it only almost won the ******* Treble this year.

Classic or tactic creator? I'm using the tactic creator and if you're not, I'm not sure anything I say will actually help you.

I dunno about playing like Bayern, but it sounds like not enough of your players have attacking duties. As a top side you should be looking at 5 attacking players, 3 defensive (2 if you're really good) and the rest at support.

Based on what you're looking for, I would go with the attacking quartet at attacking, or if you want to keep Olic or Muller or whoever as a support figure, use the fullbacks as attacking players. Deep-lying playmaker and ball-winner or defensive mid both with support duties should be good.

Basically, your forwards sound like they're too busy keeping the pressure high and defending, and they're too tired keep it going. Maybe the players, in-game, aren't good enough for what you're attempting. But as a top side you should be attacking, and most of what you've said is based on defense.

Yeah, well I guess I'm just trying to be as accurate as possible. For the most part MvB and Schweinsteiger don't get involved in the attack and Lahm overlaps well with Robben, but Badstuber and Contento don't really get forward all that often, particularly Badstuber.

I guess this game can't really work with this formation unless I play defensive and try to hit the opposing team on the counter attack, but Bayern generally dominate possession. And while we are very dangerous on the counter attack and score a good amount of goals from them, we certainly don't sit back and counter.

It's possible my attacking players in-game just aren't good enough, but Olic is supposed to move into space and pressure the **** out of the defense, and Muller is basically supposed to do the same, but pressure the DMs. I don't imagine it takes too much skill for that to be their main role.

Don't mean to butt in Shifty, but would you like to try my tactical approach to the game? Give me what line-up you want for your next game (and formation) and I will upload a tactic for that (I assume you are in the first season). I just want to see what you think and if you are impressed?

I don't have a problem with tactical success, my problem is implementing the real life Bayern system into FM.

D'oh

My only comment is that Olic's attributes are beast. 20 for pace, stamina, natural fitness, work rate, and has good off the ball. Also 2 footed.

edit: Sometimes its really hard to implement a tactical idea in FM since the match/tactic engine doesn't get it.

Olic is awesome. Hope he gets another year to strut his stuff at Bayern. We were relying on Gomez and Klose until about Christmas and the team really picked up when the Olic and Muller partnership started to get going. It's possible we could slide Muller up to forward and use Kroos as a classic #10 this year... and in 2011 it wouldn't surprise me to see us move Olic to the bench for a new signing.
