Animal Experimentation

Animals have the right to be treated as beings of value in themselves, not as the means to human ends; this principle must be applies in order to guarantee the end of cruelty to animals. The application of this principle means that animals should never be experimented upon whatever the potential gain for humanity. To infect monkeys with the AIDS virus or to expose rodents to toxic chemicals and radiation is simply not acceptable, whatever the supposed benefits.

In practice, as everyone knows, animals are not routinely treated well by animal experimenters. Apart from the fact that millions of animals die each year in experiments, others are often not adequately anaesthetised and are abused by handlers and experimenters. It is idealistic to suppose that this will ever stop as long as society endorses vivisection.

I have said what I think. But What are your views about this?

If an animal needs to suffer so a human can have a better life, I'm all for it. If thousands of animals die but the AIDS virus is extermnated, then it's well worth experimenting on them.

But if animals die how can humans live on because it will seriously affect the Food chain and the Food web.Think about it.

Dipanjan, I don't see any evidence which shows that animal experimentation is having adverse effects on the food chain. If you do, please show me.

oh.. and Alex.. what?

Come on Alex you are ruining the complete importane of this topic.
This is a very important debate subject which concerns all of us.As I cannot write a whole essay about that in my computer.I searched for it in the net and saw some good points in that site.I can write well but not type ,what I think in my mind.If you have a problem with it that I copied it here you are just undermining the whole issue. This is what I think.Understand?

Az...you said that If thousands of animals die but the AIDS virus is extermnated, then it's well worth experimenting on them..So if his many animals die they are surely gonna have an dverse effect on the world.

Lesse, mad scientist takes 2 rats, they have 15 rats, who have 15 rats, who have 15, etc. until they get a 1000. they then ask the wizard of oz to kill them all, he does, AIDS cured. No adverse effects.

This is as serious a discussion ads you're gonna get if you can't even say your own thoughts properly.

Az I am from a country where Enlgish is not the first language and you have to toil hard to get it right. If I like a subject and cannot express it but I know of a place where it is written elaborately.Should'nt I just copy it seeing the relevance of the matter.I think this should not even matter.

Let this improtant topic continue.Sorry for the interruption.

dipanjan your views are hardly surprising given the classic hindu viewpoint (though I'm willing to bet king disagrees)

But as far as I'm concerned animals are nothing but a natural resource which should be produced and used to benefit the human race in as many ways as possible. Of course, we need to be careful to maintain the populations so that we always have enough to fulfill our needs, but our interest in their survival should be purely material.

I'm with Rob, we should privatise endangered species. Seriously.

I'm sitting a class discussing Animal Welfare/Animal Rights.

Exciting stuff right here...:|

Especially the video of the monkey being shocked and then gassed to see how long he can balance. You stay classy, human race.

This just after my midterm on the Armenian GENOCIDE and the Holocaust.

I think I will go shoot myself now.
