It's so simple, after I played a couple of matches with the PES 3 demo, i finally understand the thing about PES:

It's an arcade game nothing more, nothing less.

I know Fifa has it flaws, but PES got them too and then GTA Vice City does, Rise of nations, should I go on?

No the thing is I always thought that there were two kinds of footygame fans in this world:

- Arcade style (PES)

- Simulation style (FIFA)

but there are three I guess, a combination of those two is also a possibillity.

No offense but PES just isn't my game, it was FIFA, it is FIFA and it will always be FIFA.

But I finally got the chance to check out PES and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by it, but then again not my kind of footygame.

To all PES fans out there: It's a great game, not my game, but for those who like it, I think it's a great game.

Maybe if EA bought Konami or vice versa, then we could have a game for everybody, but untill then I guess we will keep the PES/FIFA discussion

FIFA is a much more simple, hight speed, high scoring football game.

PES has far more complex controls, tactics, actions, and is far lower scoring.

But the faces and players teeth in FIFA look good.

Your the first person I have ever heard that has called PES an arcade game, and FIFA the sim. Pretty much all fifa fans i've seen post say they like it because its got the real faces and licenses, and that the only thjing going for PES is the gameplay.

The way I see it is that PES can be played in a gamehall and FIFA not (maybe see it as a compliment).

It is just so that PES reminds me of the old footygames in arcade halls. Great fun but always very difficult to master. But it is definitly not a simulation game IMO. Again I would like to point out that the guys at EA still cannot make a flawless game but then again will that ever be possible?

It is not a week I know, but I must say something about PES.

I just played 6 matches against a friend of mine and to be honest it is more fun playing to a human player. But I think that is the arcade bit in the game, just plain soccer. And I wanna say it is not a bad game but it is an arcade game. My friend never heard of PES and the first thing he said (when he saw the game) was that it reminded him of the arcade soccergames. But then again Konami is a name to be seen a lot in arcade halls . So it is not very strange that konami games are likely to be arcade like.

I also think that the port to pc is not so well done. Strangely when I set the details to full, there is a definite slowdown in fps, so monday I'm gonna rent the game for my PS2. I'll keep my word and play a whole week, but not on PC anymore.

I think that FIFA was always meant to be a simulation game, but it always counted on with less resources than PES...while pes (or ISS) evoluted graphically and 'gameplayily', FIFA got stuck, but the original FIFA's proposal was to create a game that reproduced the tough atmosphere of a field...while in PES u got a so damn liquid gameplay, that simply doesn't correspond to reality...the players really look as if they were gliding on ice...

just check it...if u try to cut with a player, in PES, he swings his body very easily...the ball simply don't have weight, nor the player...

but in FIFA, u feel players 'heavy' and the ball, too...just like football is played, just like playing football...or can u swing so fast and change directions so easily (even if ur in shape or damn slim) like Ronaldinho does in PES?

Specially FIFA 2k4...it is so meant to be real and it is finally reaching the target...PES it is an excellent game, it's one of my top 3...but FIFA 2k4...no need to comment...

Those are exactly what PES is...NOT!

If you want "heavy" or "sluggish" player, Konami already did that in WE5/PES1, and since then have moved on to more fluid but still realistic player movement. Been there done that. EA still have a long way to go....

u still didn't play FIFA 2k4...it's been a long time since a fifa edition don't get 5/5...it did here in Brazil and believe me: we are the WE land...everybody here loves it, including mags and game sites...and yes...ok, watch a footy mach and tell me if players move so lightly as in PES…NO!! they don’t…PES, honestly speaking…offers u control over players and players alone, coz it is damn easy to dribble…that’s why people love PES and talk about its ‘gameplay’…c’mon…u don’t see some of moves executed in PES so easily in real life…I’m talking from a point of view of a fifa 2k4 reality already…I hated 2k3…everything on it was so predictable or disonest…coz the CPU always had a last trick in the sleeve to beat u…but its not like that in 2k4, I guarantee…and I only played the demo…u know, FIFA fans are even more honest than PES and they hated other versions…but 2k4…no, it’s not like that…

About the goals scored exactly the same…no way, too…I was able to score (in the demo) many different ways, and some of those ways are similar to the ways u can score in PES…something that didn’t happen in FIFA 2k3…another ‘special’ thing from PES…u can never score PES goals with 2k3…but u can in 2k4!! I even could score a goal with Schevchenko heading…it was really nice, specially coz I did it with the keyboard…And the cpu can score u in a biiig number of mastered ways…Del Piero and Nedved really punished me…everytime the ball got to them they shot a different kind of mastered kick, really nice…I remember a goal that Trezeguet scored against me…Nedved confused my defense with a very nice play, attracting all my defenders and he made Trezeguet to stand alone and just tap in (strongly) against my goal…very cool, indeed.

I think FIFA 2k4 is closer to reality, coz it gathers more in-field factors, realistic factors…and that’s coming from a real WE fan…I really loved it and I was eagerly expecting PES 3 (WE 7)…believe me, I couldn’t play fifa 2k4 yet, but when I do it…my believes will be even more assured. I know it…man I play videogame since my 5, I can tell when a game it’s gonna be good from the pics…almost no mistake about it…heehhe 90% sure most of times…and it was like that with fifa, since the first videos…

Open ur mind and play it without considering it’s a EA’s product…close ur eyes and ur ears when EA’s logo appear and the ‘It’s in the game’ slogan is told…then play it…and then, tell me…

and I just checked one goal from showusmiracle.com...a certain one scored by David James OG (NUMBER 367)...and it's ridiculous...the buggest bug of all!! if u think u see goals like that in real life, then, maybe the goalkeeper had Parkinson Disease!!!

Tinytim are u retarded??? yes sum of the goals look like buggy gameplay and realy unrealistic. But that does not happen often. Go to issextreme.com and look at the goals in the hall of fame. And why is fifa copying alotta shiet allready in the PES series. I mean carrer mode for only 5 yrs?? hahah Master League never ends.

Going back to the original post....all Fifa goals by human or AI look and are VERY similar....I get very little or ANY satisfaction from scoring a goal in Fifa2004. If you take a pot shot at goal in Fifa most of the time it goes in...in PES you really have to be aiming and placing it correct otherwise your shot is gonna hit the stands.

I will not be buying Fifa2004 because i don't want a soccer game where too many things are scripted and the shooting system is lame.

Fifa FANS = Those who like a cheap tart who will give them a quick thrill and will look like your gandma by the time shes 30

PES FANS = Those who like a classy woman who matures like wine and bears you beautiful kids
