Senegal coach Kasperczak resigns

Pole Kasperczak is a veteran of coaching in Africa
Senegal coach Henri Kasperczak has resigned with immediate effect following his team's poor performances at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
The Teranga Lions lost 3-1 to Angola on Sunday and now have only a slim chance of qualifying for the last eight.

Senegal assistant coach Lamine Ndiaye will take charge of their final game, against South Africa on Thursday.

Kasperczak, in charge since May 2006, said: "I assume all responsibility for the poor showing."

Speaking on Monday, Kasperczak added: "I tendered my resignation immediately after the match against Angola to the president of the Senegalese federation and it has been accepted. I have informed the players.

"I'm not looking to blame anyone or look for an excuse, but maybe with me out of sight things might turn out well because we still have a chance."

Senegal have one point from their two matches and must defeat South Africa and rely on Tunisia defeating Angola to have any chance of progressing.

Technical director of the Senegalese football federation, Amata Fall, told BBC Sport that Kasperczak's resignation came out of the blue.

"We are surprised he has taken this decision because there was a good bond between him and the players," said Fall.

Kasperczak, who played for Poland at the World Cup in 1974, has previously been in charge of Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Mali.

Senegal reached the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals in 2006, the last eight in 2004 and were finalists in 2002.

Damn, I didn't suppose he will resign.(:/)

Ghana 2:0 Morocco at HT.

We can officially say goodbye to Morocco. That's actually a big surprise, they started this tournament crashing Namibia and after this victory something has ****ed up.

Morocco need to score three goals in less than 20 minutes if they are to make it to the quarter finals. I can't see them doing it, they'll be packing their bags and making an early trip home.

Namibia equaliser, 1-1.

Though as it stands it'll still be enough for Guinea to qualify. Morocco still need to score 3 times, or hope that Namibia can get an unlikely winner, if they are to go through.

Well I couldn't call Mali the new "Super" Eagles after what happened today, a 3-0 loss to Ivory Coast combined with Nigeria's 2-0 win over Benin means they are out on goal difference, and the Ghana v Nigeria quarter final should hopefully be one to look forward to.

And yes Eurosport are covering the tournament to the European market. Eurosport GB showing the games live on Sky Digital here.

Ivory Coast 3:0 Mali

Drogba and the others took this match seriously and won it without any problems.

Nigeria 2:0 Benin

I can't say too much about it because I saw only goals during the main transmission on EuroSport.

Sorry about not making myself clear before. I'm in Canada for the time being & can't find any matches on TV. If anyone knows who's broadcasting the Cup of Nations in Canada (or at least America) drop a hint, Thanks!

Egypt 1-1 Zambia
Cameroon 3-0 Sudan

Unfortunately for Xifio the Chipolopolo are out, they almost snatched a winner after coming from behind which I think could have edged Egypt out on the head to head record.

Group D to be decided tomorrow, a draw between Angola and Tunisia will see both sides go through so I can't see either of them busting a gut to win.

Well at the moment Angola v Tunisia is goalless so as it stands both sides will go through, Tunisia have had a few chances but neither side seems to be really going for it knowing the scenario regarding both teams' passages into the quarter finals. Senegal v South Africa is currently 1-1 but the big news is that El-Hadji Diouf, along with Tony Sylva and Ousmane Ndoye were all dropped after being caught in a nightclub last night.

Well it's just finished 1-1 in the Senegal v South Africa game after a whopping seven minutes of injury time. So they'll both be going home winless.

bout time Nigeria got out, they were bad all year. they showed nothing but PURE GARBAGE. NIgeria worst peroformance in a tounrmane tlike this ever.

the question looms over the NFA will Berti Vogts get fired or not. because this poor performance shows other wise, he's GONE!

im in Ghana :P , its great out here atmosphere amazing and now for my picks tomorrow.

Angola pulls the upset 2-1, courtesy of the amazing Manucho.

and Tunisia beats Cameroon 3-1 Eto cannot do anytihng by himself. Cameroon showed that int heir 4-2 loss to egypt that they dotn not have what itt akes with their winning come against Sudan and Zambia who showed no promise in this tourney.

Angola just lost 1-2 to Egypt.
I though they might cause the upset. Thought the same for Mali, but they got knocked out early.

Sure Ivory and Ghana are the strongest teams to win it.

now its Egypt - Cote d' Ivoire , Cameroon - Ghana

Ghana will win with pure determination, Cameroon will give them a hell of a game with both teams being physical but Cameroon by the skin of their teeth won the game, it was either a loss for them or late winner. but at the end Ghana wins, they;re on a role, they have their captain back for the next match. and they are at home so advantage Ghana, they win easily 3-1.

Ivory Coast, is hungry, they're on a mission, its not to just win an ol dplain cup but now with the death of Stielike's son (Ike Stielike was the coach of ivory coast before resigning to tend to his son in acoma and now dead) they are out to win it for that man, they will stop at nothing to win it for the Stielike and his family. its his dream and now its the Elephants dream and they showed Guinea first hand who really wanted it. so for egypt, revenge will be sweet for the elephants for cote d iviore because, they beat them bakc in ACN 06 now its Drogba's turn.

Cameroon won 1-0 with a goal from Alain Nkong but the game was overshadowed by André Bikey getting himself a silly red card for shoving a medical official to the ground in the last minute whilst they were carrying Rigobert Song off on a trolley. He must have been off his bikey, what a tard! (H)

Ivory Coast v Egypt is on in an hour that should hopefully be a very well contested encounter.
