AC Milan Thread [2012/13]

Schalke wouldn't, but if Milan went after him one would expect the player to put a lot of pressure on the club to sell.

Swiss Ramble [http://swissramble.blogspot.com/] has a lengthy article about Milan which is fascinating not just about Milan but the financial state of Italian football. My own impression is that Juventus is going to start to run away with the country if the other big clubs don't build their own stadiums as quick as possible.

a good blog post ... thanks for bringing it to my attention; I'll keep tabs on The Swiss Rambler ...

as for the topic itself, I think Milan and the big Italian clubs will manage ... clearly the revenue stream for Barça and Real is skewed by their TV deal ... and again I maintain that Prem clubs' English-language base is the cornerstone of their financial success ... but coming up with a situation-specific solution will be the challenge for Galliani, Moratti, et al ... (what's that? betting and matchfixing, you say?)

I think everyone sees the need to build and own their own stadium ... Fiorentina just unveiled their plans ... I think if Italy had won the EURO 2016 bid, the building of those stadia would have been expedited ... but now it's up to the clubs to follow the example of Juve, and for the league as a whole to follow the example of Germany and England ... it'll happen ...

I do think they are at an inherent disadvantage to England and Germany in the sense that the crowds don't seem to be as big and passionate, but I guess you can say the same about Spain. In the end it all comes down to those luxury boxes and stadium naming rights.

hah, I hope you're kidding about the passionate fans ... they don't come to the stadium coz matches are available on free-to-air tv or on basic cable, which is more affordable ...

the Serie A needs to copy the Premier League model in terms of league structure and distributions, and the Bundesliga in terms of financial policies ...

I think there's really something to be said for fans who go to the stadium even when they can watch the game on TV. That isn't passion? Anyway, I actually don't think the Bundesliga is great financially, but Bayern could definitely be a great model for Milan and Juventus at least. Bayern has a better domestic advertising pool because the economy is better, but Milan and Juve can probably strike much more lucrative international partnerships.

If Milan sells Thiago Silva, they will officially become a second-grade club, I guess for all the titles he gave to Milan, Berlusconi has the power and privilege to put Milan right where it was before he came in.

Oh, and it's about time they officially became an second grade club, and Italy a second grade league, let's be honest, they're all dangling there for a long time now. And as much as I love Milan and Italy as a country. No great new Italian players, no strength in attracting great players and no ambition from Milan is something that I am really fed up with, the last time Milan was building a new team in the beginning of the 2000's was the last time Berlusconi had any real hunger to win with Milan, and he doesn't deserve to pull Milan and all of their fans down. Step down and let someone with passion take over!

Milan can win in Italy on the count of Ibra, but without Silva, the league is a definite no, despite the fact that there is not a team in Italy that plays good football aside from Napoli or Udinese, Inter and Juve are ****, the same as Milan, and it's sad that the image of these clubs being untouchable titans of football is fading so quick, I mean, without great players you cannot expect anything, and Milan has (?) only Silva and Ibra (Ok, Cassano and Boateng are really good but they are not gods, and will never be) , Inter has Sneijder and they don't even play him and Juve builds their game around Pirlo ?!? I mean the Milan team of 2003/04 had more stars than the whole serie a has now!!! And they're talking about selling Silva, instead of (now here's the amount of power I think Milan should have) taking Hamsyk, Hernanes and Sahin for the midfield, buying Cavani or Falcao to partner Ibra, and getting Kompany, Criscito and Lloris for any amount that their clubs want, and saying to the fans, sorry you had to wait for a good team for so long. I mean Berlusconi acts as if this is a team with spending power and allure like Tottenham! Not to offend anyone, I just wanted to precisely say what impression I am getting of Milan's current power in contrast to other powerful clubs in Europe, not say the worst club I can think of. I mean for ****'s sake Chelsea and City can outmuscle Milan! MILAN! Chelsea and City times 1000 don't have the half of history of Ac Milan. And even I respect Chelsea for instance more than Milan with their recent approach to football, and that's not because of the CL win, hell I even appreciate this great generation that Tottenham is building more than the teams Milan have had constructed since 2007. I just hope Berlusconi will sell Milan one day, and that this beautiful club will shine once again.

So is Totti and Seedorf, Nesta, Zanetti and many other players but of the older generation! Buffon is a keeper so he's still useful, but that doesn't change the fact that he's going to be gone in a couple of years. Those are the same stars that played in Italy 10 years ago, Italy has no strength to pull in players like David Silva, Ozil, Aguero and so on.

What attracts big stars for transfers is huge amounts of fees, fees that Italian clubs cannot afford without foreign investors, the stars of Serie A must be created from within, and thus aren't going to have the profile expensive foreigners have

You are wrong, Berlusconi has more or in worst case equal amount of money than the majority of the owner or investors of the clubs which are outbidding Milan for players, the fact is that he doesn't want to invest as much as he used to. Oh and by the way Moratti and the Agnelli's are also definitely not poor.

it's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the f*cking century! in fact, f*ck it, Nick, I think I'll keep it!

Xifio

The Von Trapps
for f*ck's sake, Galliani, you better sell 'em both, or keep 'em both ... this is becoming a joke ... I'm really starting to lean towards the former option ...

Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi, Pastore, Ménéz, Motta, Sakho, Thiago Silva, Carletto... i think i'm supporting PSG as well.

EDIT: Hope they sign Julio Cesar now that Inter doesn't want him.

Forza Suarez! (ps brotha can you spare a dime?)
I don't like that Milan are being gutted. As Juve fan it makes me worried that we won't face any competition towards the scudetto and won't improve as a team.

I mean Milan could just build their own stadium if they want something that will pay off debts, current and future....
