But seriously, there are two topics here I guess.
When a creator makes his mod available to the public for free, the only thing that I think matters is giving a credit to the author. Then usually it's all fine. Even though unpacking .fifamod files is a said no-no for some reason even if it's not anything hacky since Frostbite Modding Tool does it out of the box.
When a mod is behind a paywall - that's another story. You cut money out of them, either by downloading stuff for free or paying someone who took it and started to sell.
This is the biggest fear - that some mf unpack your mod, make this "BIG STAR FACEPACK MOD" which will charge money for.

Since I am sharing all the assets some MF just create a mod from it and share it as if they made it from scratch, some even link their paypal to it. And of course no credit were given.

I am also against for paying for mods, but it should be for the work. For example releasing the files for free and then pay for assemble. That way you get most money and you give option to make it for free and community learns hard way. Which is only pros with that method. Of course people can still steal your files, but they do anyways even with fifamods. And people don't know what to do with files most of the time or are lazy to even import ready fifamods into their game, unless it's AIO :lol:Really sad stories. Also other take would be that you can pay more for customization for other IDs than said in let's say unified FIFA 23 Table for facemakers(there still is an option to do fifamod yourself with files, but many people are lazy or can't as I said before). So that's where you would get money.
Only exploit I see there is asking randoms to make it, but then it would be needed some sort of union among most modders, as it is now with said no-no for opening fifamods using FMT.
Honestly, there is a big mistake here on the part of many, no facemaker has the right to the player's image to create his face and even so he does it and many even sell it. This topic was created unnecessarily but facemakers have no reason to complain as they act outside the law .
What do I mean by that ?? It's just that if someone uses any face of any FIFA for another FIFA and even sells it even though he wasn't the original author no one can complain because the primary action is already wrong, using someone's image without their consent and selling is a crime.

What if a free F23 facemaker was to convert the face to F14 for free and post it themselve?
F14 modding crowd does not tolerate paid mods so even if someone was to steal the F14 face and hide behind a paywall, no one would oay money anyway?

1) So much great works has been done for free, from tools to conversions, that if someone will come after this for make money, it's very wrong.
2) I also understand those masters who work for free and see that others are making money with his work
3) Tokke001 should be a millionaire now (maybe he is, but not with this business)
4) I didn't wanted to cause controversy, because everyone has their own truth. Some people have money, some don't, but it doesn't matter. I like FIFA 11, someone likes 12, someone likes 13, etc. And no one should offend our feelings, except for the official FIFA

This is something I believe we all know and understand. What we are doing in general is not legal or ethical and it is against the agreement ect. What I was saying is the answer to the original question. Why so little moders share their assets. Because if you do so, someone else will profit from it. Like I see my faces converted to 14 and 16 more often than I see my nick as the original creator. (Let’s not talk about EA being the original creator here). I am not losing any money by this, still is disrespectful at the beginning.
About someone making money from something someone else did is really disrespectful, but I think the focus of those who create faces and share should always be on the community and not in earn merits.

To be hones, I am this vain that even if it's free conversion I think credits should be always given. Collecting "fame" (see the quotation marks please) or better say reputation, likes, downloads... from someone else work is disrespectful at least.
It's like you said, it's a matter of vanity, because there is also work on converting, and many of the faces that are converted are not even good, they are basically EA's standard faces with few changes that resemble the player used as a base.
