A way to End Diving and bring honesty back the football world

here it is ... my system to end diving and bring honesty back to football

1. Every match is reviewed by a panel (like the FA could even be the FA) and any challenges that a player has taken a deliberate dive as adjudged by the panel warrants a 3 match ban.

this way if their was a player who fell over himself and the ref awards a penalty the player can be honest about it and admit to tripping or face a3 match ban

the thing is though it isnt fool proof ... what if the player has very little contact and the panel says their was none ... lots of variables .... any one got any better ideaS ?

i think honesty is the main word here... i don't know what happened to it as more and more player try to cheat their way through the system... i remembered a few years back when we play arsenal at highbury, robbie fowler was brought down in the box and we was given the penalty kick but robbie fowler protested that it wasn't a penalty to the ref... we seldom see this kind of honesty from players nowadays... especially the kevin philip penalty it was a total disgrace.. he fell down by kicking on the turf and yet a penalty was given, but what he do is just kept quiet and run away... :kader:

unfortunately, I think it is going to need something like the video ref in rugby, where play is stopped and the vid ref is consulted on-the-fly. if he dove - free kick to the opposition. if he didn't, and was brought down, penalty.

either that, or get the players to grow up.

Yes I have thought that is the best way too. Its made rugby a better game and does not take very much time for the video judge to make up their minds. Also if the video evidence does not provide any help then the on field decision will remain. The head official will just use the advice of the video judge. This is how it works in the NHL also and it has made the game fair.

If anything needs a video judge, it should be for the calls missed on dis allowed goals(Borough v Everton).

There is a way to stop diving. Yellow cards. The refs just cvnt out most of the time and are pussy about it. Ive seen it plenty. The player goes down in the box, the player appeals and then the ref just waves play on. On occasions like this, it was either one of two things; a penalty, or a dive. Yet no decisive action is taken by the ref. If it was a penalty give it. If not card the player for attempting to decieve.

correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there talk of the possibility of using video refs for contentious offside decisions, or 'goal cams' that could tell if the ball had gone in, in the aftermath of the semifinals of the world cup? I think there may have been, but they were scuttled precisely because of the traditionalists concerns.

Well, there comes a point where the traditionalists have to move on. Sure, it does interrupt the game of football, just as it has done with rugby and rugby league, but usually for no more than a couple of minutes. And it adds a new dimension to a game as well, the 'intensity' of waiting for the decision.
But those codes are better for having the interruptions, because the outcome is fair. No more wasted time arguing 'but it wasn't a try' after the game, because they simply are not awarded. I don't know if you watch rugby maddog, but in the recent test between the AB's and the Wallabies, the wallabies looked to have crossed the line several times, but the video ref was able to show that the ball was not put down. Therefore no try. And no more 'getting away' with a cheeky try.
As with the cricket. It doesn't necessarily take away the power of the umpire at all, it just means he has another resource to use in making a decision. At the end of the day, the ref would hold ultimate authority, but would at least have the option to clarify a situation he doesn't see. Makes the game fairer.

I really can't see why football doesn't make more use of the technology available. The ref can't see everything.

And at least it would put a stop to all these 'Ruud is a diver' or 'Pires is a diver' arguments.

its as simple as that !!!

any attempt to dive in a blatent manner ... and that has influenced the game
- getting a penalty
- a freekick from which you've scored
- or getting a player yellow or red carded

should warrant a 2 or 3 match ban
