I have bought the latest ipod nano 8GB about 2 month ago. I use it in my car to play music, however i have been measuring the average amount of time it takes before the batter goes from saying fully charged to red is like 5.5 hours. Isn't it supposed to be like 24 hours of music play? Does it affect my batter THAT much from the fact that every 15-20 minutes, i shut off my ipod once i get to my destination?

Welcome to the wonderful world of iPod.
If your display is shut off and you just leave it there playing music then it will last a long ass time (not 24 hours though), however if you're constantly messing with it and the display keeps coming up all bright and shiny it will drain the battery in a hurry.
Set the screen brightness as low as possible and it should help the batter last at least 10-12 hours. If that's not the case then you're battery is probably screwed.
