If UEFA is enforcing this loan thing... they should have done so during the approval process of the loan initially.

UEFA is saying that it would just be dirty business for Chelsea to make Atletico pay to play Courtois.
I remember back in 2003 Geremi, on loan from us to Monaco, scored a goal in game which eliminated us. I dont think loanees should be ALLOWED to play against their parent clubs, even for a fee. Think about the possibility for corruption, a (probably Italian) club could easily whisper into the ear of a keeper on loan at their opponent in such a key game to "make a few mistakes" in exchange for a contract renewal or first team opportunity next season. It raises a big question of split loyalties and conflicts of interest. Courtois should not play.

The problem is that clubs like Chelsea have the money and resources to hoard players like Lukaku and Courtouis. I would be in favor of scrapping the loan system for good and having the likes of those players play week in week out for the club that pays their wages. It's horrifically unfair on teams who cannot afford to hoard players.

I'd probably make an exception up to a certain age. Maybe allow sending youth players down to the lower leagues. You shouldn't be able to loan somebody from the top league in a country to another top league in another country.

That would just mean the top youth players will rot on the bench. This way cash-strapped clubs get to play good players who get the opportunity to prove themselves and improve. Scrapping the loan system is stupid, the quality of everyone but the top teams will diminish and those teams will gradually get worse, too.

It will encourage the best young talent to work their way up and not sign for a top team so soon.

The amount of players who sign for top clubs thinking they're gonna play right away and then languish on the bench is astronomical. Players will continue to do this with or without a loan-system. But without one they'll be stuck.

Hurts players who come up as youth team players at big clubs. Both Lahm and Alaba went on loan. David Beckham went out on loan.
