I quit playing FIFA 2005 and will buy PES4 when it is released here in the netherlands.
First the good things about FIFA 2005, before I get beserk:
FIFA 2005 is way cool with the official licences. My friends and me are fans of Henry. But I play with some crappy dutch team in the carreer mode. Fun fun fun. The idea that is. Not the game play.
Now the bad things. Sorry but I just had it with them, so let me flame a bit huh? Don't read if you read it all before

* I have a top notch PC. I expect fluent smooth animation. Well even though my FPS is over 120 all the time, it is still looks choppy. I don't care if there was a fix for that in 2004. I have 2005. Period. Unacceptable.
* So I finally (newb here!) after 1.5 seasons of carreer mode I manage to implement good midfield tactics. Space for Val to move on. Enter the advancing midfielder!
Wait a minute...
Why isn't the rest helping? They just hang there behind their marker.
Well, the forwards are moving on. Lets try to do it with the 4 of us then:
Midfielder moves to the side of the box, preparing for the cross. Time enough to watch I'd say.
So now we move on the my 3rd complaint...
* Midfielder crosses!
WTF???
3 forwards ready, 1 marked, 1 behind the keeper, 1 totally free , ready for cool stuff. Guess where the midfielder crosses to! The guy behind the keeper. Keeper catches it. 200 games later. The same. Same. Same.
* Various crosses.
1) Tapping "A" once IF player is near or to the side of the box = Classical high cross.
WORTHLESS. The famous keeper-catches-it issue.
2) Low cross? Tap twice if near box or to the side of it.
Nice but not not always usefull. It is only
one of the many tactics. We need this too, but just not enough.
3) Early cross?
Q+A if near of to the side of the box.
Almost useless!
If near the corner/line, then it is the same as classical cross: keeper gets it.
If near top corners of box then more usefull. But forwards often not ready yet. Yes, one is most likely always ready. But there is no continuation of "real footbal playing". The other strikers aren't ready yet. And no help from the midfielders.
Uselless. Useless. Useless.
Solution: Off-the-ball controll.
Sure mate. Dream on.
* Corners.
After hundreds of games I had it with FIFA 2005. I want to play FOOTBALL.
Do you guys play football (soccer)? Can you "read" the game on the field?
If so, then you know how to play football on a pc-game. Just master the controls. Few weeks, then you you're ready to start having real soccer fun!
But not with FIFU** 2005.
