Does anyone else think the match engine is crap?

Because I certainly do. I don't know what it is with this version, something just isn't right, in particular, the fact that I have so many shots on goal with so little possession, too many missed shots, AI taking like 1-2 shots a game and rarely testing my keeper, etc. I don't know what happened between the 7.0.2 patch(Best match engine in any FM game IMO) and the 8.0.2 patch but SI need to sort it.

It's been crap since CM4.

I think it has become rather good ruud, since cm4. FM2008 though.. well, that's another story

I havent been happy with FM 2008s yet either...

7.02 I also thought was basically spot on..dunno why they changed it so much since..surely they can revert back to an old match engine, since the attributes etc haven't changed..

Perfectly? Hardly. I can still remember the numerous reports about it being too hard, all over the web, and from personal experience I can tell being 100%sure that the dreaded 1on1 disease was at its best.

Plus I kinda agree with the difficulty thing, since not everyone can say (*like some of us here) that they have few hundred hours of experience playing this game. (hell, you can hardly even browse the menus, let alone do that at full speed, unless you have 20-30 hours of gameplay on your back!)

Well, I didn't mention it because I know the people on this forum have the decency to not use the corner bug. It's pretty easy to avoid.

I was Sporting. How the hell does Academica manage 65% possession and not take a SINGLE shot? They also had 91% passing accuracy and completely dominated crosses and headers....

yeah, it does look very odd, but appearances can be deceiving some times. User is the X factor, and tho i'm not saying that in this case you did it, but it may have something to do with your tactic (and how it came to work against Acedemicas very style). You know.. just saying

Set corners to the 6 yard box and make your best header of the ball challenge the goalkeeper.

I disagree. I never noticed the 'one on one disease' in the last patch of version 7, AND as for difficulty, use a bigger side or something...The game HAS to be hard, unless they implement difficulty settings (which I really disagree with)...It has to be hard or the game has no long term value. Those guys that want to pick it up, play and win, aren't the long term customers...They won't play season after season, because they'll win everything and get bored, without thinking...

It's a management simulation, managing a side to victory is hard, regardless of the clubs status and the players you have..Just ask Rafa Benitez

I have football manager handheld. Theres only a text engine in that.

I think what people mean by the game being hard(er) is that you now need to spend lots of time compiling a tactic that actually pays off and than after a few games you need to tweak on it again to avoid the AI adapting. Maybe it's more realistic that way, but some people, who don't have that much time, just want a quick play. That was my main concern with FM 2007, it just needed to much time. FM 2008 is better playable concerning this though I still can't say I've really played that one much either.

maybe they should have a sort of difficulty thing but name it quick play and normal play?

Might be a decent option for FIFA manager type players , but I doubt more than 1/100 current FM players will agree with that.

Well FM2008 seems to be fine for me, but maybe i just don't over analyse it as much.
