Prostitutes, paying for porn and mail order brides.

I wish to gauge public opinion and start discussion regarding the above.

Do you think it is ok to pay for sex, pay for porn or even, at the extreme, order in a bride from thailand, eastern europe or Dragan's extended family?

With so much porn free on the internet, I have never been able to understand why so many people are willing to sign up to sites at $30 a month, but then I have never been in the 'members' section of a premium porn site. Could it possibly be worth it? Wouldnt yet get bored very quickly of the same theme of pornography?

Also, I have never had sex with a prostitute or paid for sex (unless you count 'can I buy you dinner?') but there have been times when I've gone several weeks (ok, months) without having sex and have always thought at those times how easy it would be to just go out, ring up a hooker and for a few quid relieve some frustration. Honestly it's not so much the moral aspect of it which puts me off, more that I'm terrified of the idea of a prostitute and wouldnt really know how to find one. (I'm guessing it's not as easy as just ringing the number in a phone box?) Still, I dont think I could bring myself to do it. But I know there are a lot of guys from eastern europe/asia on these boards, where it is much less of a taboo. Has/does anyone here frequent ladies of the night? If you havent, would you, if you were desperate?

Finally, what are you opinions on mail order brides/thai marriage agencies/whatever. I've seen the TV shows and always been disgusted by the 60 year old men with 21 year old girls on their arm who dont speak any english, yet I cant honestly say that if I were 60 years old, divorced/single/widowed, and my options were a 55 year old wrinkled white benson and hedges smoker with bingo wings or a young, demure 21 year old daughter of Dragan's who I knew didnt really love me, but would do her best to pretend to, I wouldnt consider the latter. Hopefully I wont be in that position (in fact I doubt I will live to anywhere near 60) but if I was, well....

Thoughs? Opinions? Stories? Confessions?

I've paid for porn, although I haven't for many years unless you count a rapidshare premium account. Back in 2004 or so before I knew of the prevalence of porn forums and stuff it was just easier to get the scenes I wanted by signing up for a trial membership, downloading everything, and then canceling. Sometimes I would forget to cancel and it would automatically renew for a month.

Never paid for a prostitute, but I don't have any problem with prostitution. I think it should be universally legalized because the only thing dangerous are the pimps and other shady underground figures. I'm probably the same as you, I don't necessarily think I have a personal hangup about paying for sex, but just the idea of actually doing it seem strange. Although, if I were in Amsterdam I might try it just for the experience. However, I think you're wrong about the availability of prostitutes in western society; from what I've heard it absolutely is as easy as calling up an "escort service" from the phone book. A lot of them are online; the one that NY Governor Elliot Spitzer got busted for using was online.

Mail order brides are for the truly pathetic members of our society IMO. I can't see myself ever considering it.

In Spain it's a tradition for a boy to be bought a prostitute for his 18th birthday, but I don't know anyone who has done it, or anyone who will admit to it. Personally I think prostitution should be legalised, I debated for it as a project at school, but I don't really understand why anyone would go for it, at least anyone who can get it for free the 'standard' way. I find the potential for diseases to be too scary to even consider, although if it were legalised, you could also put in health standards and tax it.

I don't think so. There's something about not wanting to do certain things in your own community, but having no problem doing them on vacation.

Not that I'm extremely knowledgeable on the subject, but from what I hear most non-crackwhore prostitutes are so paranoid of diseases they won't even go down on you without a condom.

A friend of mine bought a handjob off a hooker in amsterdam, she refused to let him touch her, put a condom on his penis AND a latex glove on her hand. Needless to say he didnt enjoy the experience, but with these kind of standards the sex is probably much safer than picking up drunk girls in clubs and the like.

Besides, we're straight men so we dont have to care about STIs. AIDs is transferred by fluids, and during sex the fluids are moving in one pretty clear direction. As for the others, well, they're all curable.
