CHELSEA ACE BEATEN AT 'RAPE' CLUB
Oct 9 2003

FOOTBALL star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been assaulted at the same club where the 17-year-old girl was drinking before she was allegedly gang raped.
The 31-year-old Chelsea striker was punched in the face at the Funky Buddha club in London's Mayfair after refusing to give an autograph.
The 31-year-old was accosted at 3.15am yesterday by an irate clubber. He was pushed by the unknown man and responded by pushing him back.
But 10 of his attacker's friends then set upon him and started beating him up. Club bouncers sprang to Hasselbaink's defence and jumped in to break up the fight which left the ace clutching his face with a badly bruised black eye. A witness said: "It was a nasty situation. Footballers are getting a lot of stick at the moment and Jimmy was in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Another on-looker said: "There was nothing Jimmy could do to avoid what happened.
"A clubber wanted to have a go and snapped, 'Give me your autograph'. Jimmy said 'No' and told him that if he wanted his autograph he would have to go upstairs because he didn't want to stop while everyone was trying to leave. So this guy suddenly pushes Jimmy and he pushed the guy back and the guy punched him in the face. Then it all went off."
The man who punched Hasselbaink in the face waited outside the club so he could continue the fight, but fellow Chelsea stars Celestine Babayaro and Njitap Geremi managed to calm him down.
Hasselbaink then got in a car and sped off.
One friend said: "All Jimmy was trying to do was leave after having an enjoyable evening out with his mates. The club's security guards had to lead him out through the VIP room at the back for his own protection.
"Afterwards, the man was waiting to start it all off again, but luckily Jimmy managed to get into his car and get out of there as quickly as possible."
Hasselbaink did not report the incident to the police. He is a regular at the Funky Buddha clubnight, hosted by DJ Sam Young.
A spokesman for Chelsea FC said: "Because this is not a footballing matter it is not something we would normally look into anyway."
A Scotland Yard spokesman said they were aware of the alleged incident, but that no action had been taken.
Hasselbaink has scored six goals this season, but is out of Saturday's Dutch squad for the last Euro 2004 qualifier versus Moldova.
