I don't know if you've heard, but Newcastle's keeper (and most important player) was injured earlier this year. If anyone has a right to be up in arms about keepers being at risk, it's a Newcastle fan.

And Arash is right. If that was Stuart Taylor or Paul Jones this thread wouldn't exist. Which is why it didn't exist when Given got seriously injured.

and if anything, Harewood's challenge is even more dubious in terms of intent as he actually lunged in after the whistle had gone. Whereas Hunt just kept running in a straight line.

The game is a contact sport. If its a 50/50 ball go for it, you've every right. We (Goalkeepers) are protected enough as it is. I get touched while trying to claim a cross and I automatically get a foul. I don't think there should be any more protection, if we get anymore stupid with this, people won't be allowed to touch the keeper soon.
