Got this idea from the Movies forum.
Simply post here what CD's you last purchased/recieved. You can also, if you'd like, write a little critique for those CD's. This could possibly help those who'd like to expand the list of groups they listen to, and give people ideas of what to listen to next, if the CD they are interested in buying is any good. I'll get the ball rolling and start with the disc I recently bought, which is Meds by Placebo.

06 Post Blue
07 Because I Want You
08 Blind
09 Pierrot The Clown
10 Broken Promise
11 One Of A Kind
12 In The Cold Light Of Morning
13 Song To Say Goodbye

I had heard of this group before, but never really listened to them. There are two songs on this album that I'd heard before I bought it, Infra-red and Song to say goodbye, both of these songs are amazing and pursued me to check this group out. I have to say that I absolutely love this album, been pretty much listening to it back to back since I got it.

nice, just got the Maximo Park album; A Certain Trigger

  1. "Signal and Sign" (2:25)
  2. "Apply Some Pressure" (3:19)
  3. "Graffiti" (3:05)
  4. "Postcard of a Painting" (2:14)
  5. "Going Missing" (3:41)
  6. "I Want You To Stay" (3:44)
  7. "Limassol" (3:42)
  8. "The Coast Is Always Changing" (3:19)
  9. "The Night I Lost My Head" (1:51)
  10. "Once, A Glimpse" (3:03)
  11. "Now I'm All Over The Shop" (2:23)
  12. "Acrobat" (4:42)
  13. "Kiss You Better" (2:05)
it aint bad actually, but the dude's voice annoys me a bit. Apply some pressure is still their best song.

It's probably their weakest album though. If you liked that one you'll go insane with Black Market Music. Though you could just pick up their singles collection instead of picking up all the albums, which is named Once More Time With Feeling.

Last CD i bought was an Elliott Smith collection -

Figure 8

1. Son Of Sam
2. Somebody That I Used To Know
3. Junk Bond Trader
4. Everything Reminds Me Of Her
5. Everything Means Nothing To Me
6. LA
7. In The Lost And Found (Honky Bach)/The Roost
8. Stupidity Tries
9. Easy Way Out
10. Wouldn't Mama Be Proud
11. Color Bars
12. Happiness/The Gondola Man
13. Pretty Mary K
14. I'd Better Be Quiet Now
15. Can't Make A Sound
16. Bye

it's not that good but i bought purely for the fact i can say that i own all Elliott Smith's stuff; his best albums by far are "Elliott Smith" and "Either/Or" - both are absolutely stunning.

Elliott Smith is amazing, and the best of his work is when its stipped down to its bare basics, i find that the Basement On the Hill work is as good if not better than some of the stuff on Figure 8.

http://www.elliottsmithbsides.com is a great website from demos and unreleased work of his, i recommend it to anyone looking from some decent acoustic music.

IMHO the best Placebo album still is the first one ("Placebo"), raw as I like it.

I can't get enough of songs like Come Home, Teenage Angst, 36 Degrees, Nancy Boy, I Know or Bruise Pristine.
I miss my teens :boohoo:

I haven't purchased this album, as its yet to be released. But I will buy it come August, for sure. About the album: nice change of pace from Cursive's usual aggressive style and just solid, overall. The use of the trumpet coupled with bits and pieces of Mid-Western influence is great.

Oh man Cursive rock, i've got Domestica and The Ugly Organ

Best songs i think are - The Martyr, Lament of the pretty baby, the recluse and art is hard :rockman:

Quite a decent effort. Certainly a grower and it starts well with the first 3 tracks. I got the dual disk version so the DVD side is a welcome sight. The journal film has a fantastic soundtrack to it.

I have those, too. And they're both fantastic. "Butcher the Song" has to be my all-time favorite Cursive song; it's just ... God, that cello! Gretta Cohn's cello! It's so haunting. (H)

Don't know as I don't sing it. Maybe drugs?

Butcher the Song is quality :rockman: . I love the chorus - if you can call it one.
But the first 5 seconds of the song put me off it, so when i listen to it i move it after the begining build-up.After the 2 minutes the song goes into the part i really like, the "get out the butcher's knife.

The 'Cello and the other fairground music thingy really freaked me out one time when i was listening to it at 3am.

Tracklist:

1. Seaside
2. See The World
3. Sofa Song
4. Eddie's Gun
5. Ooh La
6. You Don't Love Me
7. She Moves In Her Own Way
8. Matchbox
9. Naive
10. I Want You Back
11. If Only
12. Jackie Big Tits
13. Time Awaits
14. Got No Love

Seaside is a nice acoustic number to start it off, Eddie's gun is catchy and Ooh La is very good. She moves in her own way is probably the best song on there, Naive is the hit single and it's also very good. Got No Love is a bit of a dissapointment but overall, a very good album.
