I'll have a new PC next week, not exactly top notch, but still a huge improvement over my current PC.

2048 mb RAM
dual core 2× 4gHz

how many leagues from how many countries would you recommend

what cpu did you get?
Im guessing E6320? Thats not 4ghz its 1.86, with 2 cores, not 4 ghz :D
Anyway, hope you got an Intel and hope you are also getting a decent mobo to allow you to o/c becauz you can get that cpu up to 3ghz :clapwap: (we are talking stable o/c, and with huge, actual, performance, gain).

With o/c you'll be able to select all the good euro leagues with smaller divisions and maybe even Brazil and Argentina without noticing slowdowns. Maybe even more leagues. Tho im sure you can go for almost every league without much slowdown

well, you're right, I put it confusing I guess. it's not 2× 4gHz. But a total of 4 gHz. or actually, it's 2× 2.1 gHz while we're at it.

It's an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000. (PC's with Intel seem to be quite more expensive than with Athlons) Would it be useful to upgrade to the 5000 model, a total of 5 gHz (it costs an extra 55€) -I haven't bought the PC yet, but I can pick it up when I decide to- I'm only gonna run FM anyway. I basically don't play any other games (I therefor didn't install a good graphics card, i am a student after all :p)

I did manage to get a monitor for free though, so I have some more money to spend on the PC itself. It's a cool monitor, a CRT (H). not those crappy flat screen TFT thingies.

I completely don't know if the motherboard I have is any good. A friend of mine works in a computer store and he composed a PC which would fit my needs. I only said I need a min. of 2gb RAM and a crappy gfx card. :p the motherboard is called MSI K9AGM2-L AM2 AMD 690V DDR2 VGA

I have E6420 and 1GB of RAM in my computer at work.. I`m currently running;

Argentinian
Brazilian
Mexican
Englishx2
Frenchx2
Germanx2
Spanishx2
Italianx2
Portuguese
Dutch

....leagues with Large database without a problem... my home computer has the same CPU with 2GB of RAM but I never played FM on it.. I think you can go further with your spec.. dont settle down for anything less than 18 leagues on it. ;)

Amds are nice, for cheap, but you could have gone for an entry level intel cpu instead. They can o/c to speeds (performance wise) that a high end AMD can hardly even reach. Anyway, this doesnt really matter if you dont plan/or cant o/c so..
And I will once again repeat, that its not a total of 4ghz, It's 2.1 like you said, its more accurate to consider it as 2.1 divided by 2 altho its still not accurate enough :D lols... anyway.. :(
Damn those cpu companies and their misleading advertising :(

hmmz. I'm a very casual user, so I won't o/c I think. Hence I think I'm going for the AMD, money made this decision. My friend said the cheapest intel they could install was almost 100 € more expensive, and he said I wouldnt really notice the difference as I'm a very casual user.

Maybe I'll take the more expensive AMD though. That's nice in between.

yeah, it's an entry level CPU. ~60euros
Cheapest Intel is about ~140 so big difference if you are going for a cheap computer. Performance wise the difference is also ~ as big the price gap and with the o/c capabilities intels have, even more.
Tbh if i were you and wanted this computer to last for a decent amount of time I'd go for Intel, but if you cannot afford the extra 70to90 euros I suppose it is the right thing to do.

two years ago yes, I`d go for an AMD... but today I think you should invest on Intel CPU`s.. just a recommendation..
