I've just been moved from my right-wing position which I've played in for the past 3 years into an attacking midfield central position. Kinda been given a free role but it's still different to playing on the wing. I used to play in the middle, but this was 4 years ago.

Was just wondering if any advice was around for playing attacking in the middle. I've been instructed to hold up the ball and try to support the strikers (thats obvious) but are there any other instructions?

Much appreciated.

you'll need to start looking over your right shoulder as well now :p

just watch what the pro's do and learn from that. That should help you a lot

Oh god, didn't think about that!

Forgot to add. Got a game in 2 seasons ago as a striker, but its different, cos im gonna be half striker, half centre mid!

I don't know what formation your team plays, but my team plays a 4-5-1 with two attacking mids and i am one of them. What you wanna do is be quick on and with the ball because the middle gets shut-down quick and everything collapses quick on you. Also don't be afraid to take a shot especially if they give you some space, i think that goes without saying. Play off of your strikers, don't just try to send them, but play it and try to get it back. Be creative, take guys on especially if you feel confident on the ball. Also, you will be seeing much more of the ball now. For me, attacking mid is the best position there is. Also, get back on defense when you lose it or if your team loses the ball. Sprint your ass off to get back. I have more luxury with not always having to get back on defense so fast because I have two other center mids to cover me.

well anyways, hope that helps.

Seconded. To many midfielders don't take a chance to shoot when they have it.

formation is something like
-----x-----
--x--x--x--
-x-------x-
---x---x---
-----x-----
--x-----x--

I'm the x behind the 2 strikers.

Time your runs into the box well, practice, practice, practice (Y)

since you are behind them, if there where to come a long ball, get ready to make a run while one of the strikers heads it backwards behind the defenders. You can start from about where you are and you will have a lot of speed when the ball is headed backwards and the defenders won't catch up with you.
But it is not as easy as it sounds, like Rob says, learn to time those sort of runs.

AND

Be ready to shot the ball if one of the strikers get it and give you a short pass so you can shoot the ball in motion. If you know what I mean?
It's not easy describing football strategy in some other language then my own. Don't quite got the terminology in english yet

Will there be a lot of wing play in your team? those wing-backs seem to have to run a lot. I suppose as an attacking mid, when the opposing team has returned back into the box, you should retain possession, pass it towards the wings and run into the box to receive a cross. This way there'll be 3 players in the box. there'll be two mids to cover you. Just my 2 cents.

The reason probably being that they do not want to frustrate their teammates and accused of being selfish.

Yeah, those wing-backs are great. Both are good in defense and attack. The right wing back can run 100m in 11.5 seconds or something like that. Left has good control. They'll be attacking when they can. They are OK at crossing. Not as good as me though :fool:

Thanks for the help, keep it coming!
