heh good job you didn't play it a year ago when the games took 90 minutes to complete.
If you buy Live you can zoom through the match to the end if you really want to, other than spending money you have to just wait the 20 or so minutes.
Every team gets invited to cups automatically but you have to pay.

Every team gets cup invitation...check it out under "cups".
You can play 2 friendlies a day, try looking in the friendlies forum which teams look for some...then challenge them, but keep in mind every team accepts only home and away matches on the same day (so called doubles).

I think you'll see alot of people complaining that MZ is all about making money, but I think I read somewhere that they don't make much money out of MZ, as most of it goes straight back into the game, buying better servers etc. which improves the game for everyone, even people who don't pay.
I occasionally join a cup or a friendly league, just to add a few more games for me to play, and so I can use my A team (my youths tend to play friendly games). But nobody makes you pay and you still benefit from the improvements paid for by people entering cups.
EDIT: regarding tournies you can play in for free, there are plenty of ones that are played using the friendly games.
You can go to http://web.1asphost.com/managerzone/ and join that one there (there's a SG one and a few others there).
Also hang around this forum long enough and someone will probably organise one for the users here.
And if you're very very lucky someone will make an official FL and pay for everyone to play in it.

I wouldn't get hooked on this game gagiz, it's rubbish but addictive. Oh and it's very likely that I will be handing in my letters soon as:
a) I don't have enough reliable writers
b) I can't go on playing a game that is a piece of **** and that I am doomed to never win in. 4 Wins from my past 21 matches...that's actually not bad considering the sort of results I've had this season. I may just start playing hat-trick as they actually have a simulator that works and is realistic. Analzyer and Live should be taken off as they show how bad and how many flaws Managerzone has within the actual game engine.

There's similar complaints on HT too. They give each player a star rating after every game, and there are complaints that even if you have more stars in every area of the pitch, you can still end up losing the game.. none of them are perfect.
