Wolf Creek/Hostel

Anyone seen Hostel yet?

I wanted to see it, but after seeing Wolf Creek I'm not sure if I wanna see it anymore :S I still kinda wanna see it, just because it's a Tarantino movie... I don't know if I can stomach another one of these though, after Saw II and WC :p

Anyone else seen Wolf Creek? I would imagine a lot of you Aussies have, opinions?

Hostel is not a Tarantino movie, it's actually directed by Eli Roth. All he pretty much does is "present" the movie, like he did with Hero. I think he was also a producer on Hostel.

Yeah. What Phil said.

What does Wolf Creek have to do with Hostel?

Wolf Creek wasn't that great. It had a lot of references to horror films. It was freaky because it was based on a true story but it was extremely stretched and there was a lot stuff in it that was just stupid.

It seemed to be of better quality than other stupid horror films, like house of wax or something that's made for the box office - but it certainly isn't that great of a film. Good for Australia though.

Hostel looks sick. Ill be watching it next week I guess.

Wolf Creek looks fine, Ill probably go see it today. I heard that lots of critics are walking out of it because is so gory, but the ones that stay for the entire movie loved it.

and as previously mentioned, Tarantino produced Hostel and is presenting it, and he and Robert Rodriguez watched Wolf Creek in advance and loved it and that's why their names are all over the trailers :p

well, back from Wolf Creek and it was ok. very nice gore and tension, but the story was kind of blah. its based on a true story I know but just like the guy didnt know how the tortures went, they could've at least create some backstory for the killer cause we have no idea why he did those things. plus all those other creepy guys in the gas station never appeared again.

no three-way (what else is there to do with two hot drunk girls in the middle of nowhere?), no T&A, and stupid stuff? a few. when he girl shut the guy in the neck she should've grabbed the knife and kill him right there instead of just kicking him in the back. that was the biggest mistake of an otherwise smart script that went nowhere.

Yeah I agree with that, it was pretty stupid in some parts. But it was unrealistic even though it was based on a true story, they could have made it seem a lot more real I believe.

Some dude told me Tarantino just put his name on "Hostel" to get a few quick bucks, he apparently did the same thing for Hero (promoting it like crazy but not having worked on it)?

Not quite. He sees a film he likes and ads his name to it to give it extra credibility and publicity and an opening to a wider audience. In the case of Hero he managed to get it to America and have it snapped up by a Hollywood studio.
In the case of Hostel, he liked the film and decided put his name to it and add some funding I think. His name being associated with it gave it more publicity and a wider release.

have you guys seen Hostel yet? its fvcking amazing.
and it does have a plot which many people say it doesnt, and its to not go backpacking through Eastern Europe looking for sex :p

the movie is sick, but awesome. there's so much gore and T&A here that I cant believe the MPAA let Eli Roth get away with it.

there's a scene with an eyeball that almost kills you. go see it, really (Y)(Y)(Y)

btw, Wolf Creek is nothing compared to Hostel

I love Tarantino, he's just such a sick ****er. I'm looking forward to Hostel so much, but I probably won't see it until it comes out for rent.

I just saw Hostel and I think that I'm just a deranged person. I was disappointed. I thought there would be more gore. The eyeball scene looked fake and when it started to puss I just laughed. I thought it was a decent flick for what it is, but I thought there would be more torture and blood.

I bought that "ultra extreme directors cut" expecting off the scale levels of gore and violence (I like that sort of thing :() but I wasnt too impressed, I must admit. I dont really like horror movies much anyway, but my dislike for this went beyond that. I agree with Shifty*rietz, I wanted MUCH more gore and, since it's violent reputation was about all this movie had going for it, there was pretty much nothing else to extenuate it. I've got to start being more vary of films which bandy Quentin Tarantino's name about.

when the level of gore and violence is supposed to be a movie's strong point, chances are there's something wrong it with. The fact is that even if there's some violence, there's hardly any horror. The chicks were hot though I'll give them that.

you might want to go jap if that's what you're looking for, have you seen this one? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296042/

Interesting. I've heard of Miike, but I'm not sure if I've seen any of his films. I'll check it out. I do quite like ultra violent screwed up asian films, like Oldboy and Audition, though generally speaking I prefer it comically over the top, a la tarantino, ruthlessly gritty, eg Peckinpah, or rediculously derranged, eg Greenaway.

I agree that a film can never be great if it's only strong point is the level of gore, but for sick and twisted people such as myself it can still be quite entertaining.
