Why this year crappy PES gets high in reviews?

Having been a PES player for the past few years and trying my hand at Fifa now, and I must ask, why do PES owners always feel like they have to defend their game?

I've only been surfing the Fifa forums for a little over 2 weeks now but those guys really couldn't care less for any other game. They love Fifa and the amount of commitment and detail they put in their updates is amazing.

I've been in several PES forums over the past few years and it's always the same thing. It's always that same bitterness and need for self assurance that PES is indeed the better game. Why is that? A great deal of PES fans also have a very snobish attitude as well. Why?

If you like PES than play that. If you like Fifa than play Fifa. Who cares which is better. It's a matter of preference. I know the Fifa guys don't care, and I think most of the PES guys should follow suit as well.

they always bring up gameplay which is such an old cop out. pes has had good gameplay for years, now what? what has the pes team done for the 2 years mr. seabass says it took to make this game?? It's absurd, think about it. Lets move on! give us some evolution konami!

P.S- pes2008 gameplay is very fun, smooth and enjoyable. I like arcady games too like joust, galaga and all that but I personally want a sim route in my sports games. But to say its realistic is really out of line. Anyone who plays real football can tell you this.

Wanna know what I mean about next gen material? For starters, innovation! Take Fifa for example. You have 5 vs. 5 online in a couple of days, you have a be a pro mode, you have the interactive leagues, you have a very fine tuned online service with very little lag, you have official and unofficial online tournaments. Online keeps tracks of every little last detail , stats. You can upload your goals... Then you have a modern looking menu system, fantastic audio, fantastic lighting effects, very well rendered stadia, new game engine, etc.

Now over to PES. Besides a little paint job what makes PES on the 360 and PS3 (its worse on the ps3 by the way, way worse.) "EVOLVE"? Take a ps2 PES game and put it side by side, not only in looks but everything else and really be honest with yourself. If anything, it pales in options.

Now I'm not arguing that PES is not fun, on the contrary. PES has always been fun. I absolutely adored WE8 & 9 (not sure what PES that is) and consider it my favorites. Excellent game. At one time PES crushed Fifa and fifa was garbage. I just switched back to fifa on next gen because i want something new and I want to move with the times. I want more than just good gameplay, I want a new experience even if it means learning how to play a different way, which I am truly enjoying to do now. WE9 has better gameplay than PES2008 imo, so if I just want good gameplay, I can toss that in my PS2 and presto! Now, go back a year and a half and try to remember what the next gen PES had in store for you and try to remember how you pictured it and you will most likely agree you pictured it be more than this PES.

P.S - I don't care about licenses since editing teams in WE was my favorite thing to do. I'd create 10-12 custom teams from crest to lettering to boots to celebrations, etc. In this respect I hope Konami doesn't get more licenses since I fear it may make them omit the editing system in other releases.

Mate, apparently you have a completely different view of what next-gen material is. When I think of next-gen, I think of killer graphics. Powerful innovations like the ones you mentioned could also occur in current-gen games, except no company wants to make them.

And yes, I agree, PES did not grasp the full potential of next-gen systems. However neither did FIFA. Yes, PES2007 for NG was horrible, but so was FIFA 07...a demo worth $60....FIFA however has grasped NG power more than PES. why? because in oreder to do that, EA had to make sacrifices. so what? Well, they pretty much didn't do ANYTHING to the CG version of FIFA08 (for PC) Konami however also made the game NG, for PC, AND you need very little system requirements, and that is why PES (IMO) is awesome this year.

I understand you like FIFA08 more NG because you have a next-gen console. Well, I don't. You love the online because you CAN play online. I can't. So, I am stuck with a piece of sh!t FIFA08 for PC or PES2008 for PC that is ALSO NEXT-GEN, AND my PC can support it (let's hope, lol). That is why I see PES as better. It's offline features are much more and nicer than FIFA08.

And I too agree the editing system of PES rocks! ;)

So those are my 2 cents...

To each his own I guess. That's my conclusion. We will never agree and that's not such a bad thing. I'll leave off by saying fifa 08 on 360 is much more ng than pes 2008. Killer graphics? fifa faces look horrible for the most part but the stadia rendering, the lighting effects, pitches, moving cloth and hair and detail on the kits are outstanding. Featurewise, it's no comp. Fifa wins there too and that's fact. The online alone is very superior and brings ng ideas, modes and ways to play + keeps track of every single detail, stats, etc. I am not arguing gameplay as much as I am arguing features, effort and what company is really moving on ng and it's not konami. If you disagree you are hopeless. Even konami diehards know that pes on next gen is not what people had in mind. It falls way short on konamis 2nd attempt.
