Hey guys,

I got the game delivered today!!!!!

I ordered it last 17/5/01 Thursday, and to my amazement it arrived today 24/5/01!!!

Maybe it is the way I play this game or perhaps it is the fact I have only played this game for one day, but...I hate this game!!!!

I forked out 21.99 pounds which is roughly $70.00 Australian dollars to buy this game from gameplay.com and boy am I mad!!!!

I used to play the Actua soccer series and this game reeks of Actua soccer 2 & 3. I loved Actua soccer 1 and Euro 96...great games. The ball movement was great, the passing was majestic and the crossing was delightful to watch. Actua 2 & 3 were horrible and this game despite the graphics is just as bad!

I'm sorry but this game is full of bugs. You get a throw in and take the damn throw only to find the ball is spinning in mid air and the game stops abruptly. I had to wait till half time to get the game going again! The dribbling is horrendous, why do you get tackled every time you come within 3 cms of a defender. In iss pro evo 2 you can turn left and right, diagonally left and right cut back and do a myriad of things all without any skill moves!!!

The crosses are like filling up a helium balloon and sending it into the box! The defending and the tackling is pitiful and the one two's are a shadow on ISS's one two game system. What ever to happened to knocking the ball long and hard across the park ? Why does the ball have to float?


I have played the game and I must say so far I am not impressed!! The ball travels one minute at the speed of a snail the next it flies at the speed of light!

I copped a goal and the ball did not even go in!!! What is with that? It just hit the post! The ball sits on the outer(out of play)after a throw in? The players move so slow and the defending is worse than fifa 2000 when you had a sweeper on a striker the whole game!!!

The editor sux big time!!!!!

Why did I buy this game???????!!!!!

just another reason why I DIDNT buy the game... yet.

At this point, all the things you mentioned are big problems.
Although it has alot of potential, and parts of the game are excellent, in my view the game is simply not finished. And so, it probably shouldnt be on shelves in its current state.

BUT, unlike "other" game companies, these guys are actually listening to the public, and are about to release a patch that should fix alot of the bugs/issues you mentioned.

I think once the bugs and major issues (defending and attacking needs serious work), the game will be quite playable, and even more enjoyable that other soccer games.

Of course once they add great features like saved replays/gamehighlights, user definable game speeds, better controls and customisation of them, and other things i mentioned in a previous post, all of which are doable, then this game would be the best soccer game i have ever seen, and certainly worth the $$.

so wait for the patch, and hopefully things will get alot better. i'm aching to play the game, but till the patch comes, its just too frustrating to play.

I doubt whether a patch can fix all the problems with this game. I really am upset because the potential is there, however the game looks unfinished and lacks the little touches that would have made this game great.

BTW when is the patch going to be made available do you know? What is going to be in the patch anyway?

I have to strongly disagree ith you there, Eleftherios!
UEFA Challenge is a great game!
Look at the gameplay:
Did you realise how the players move, how they fall over when tackled, how hard easy mode is compared to Fifa2001?
Take a good look at the gameplay, this gameplay is the closest football games have come to challenging ISS for the PC!

The graphics:
I agree, they aren't the graphics that Fifa2001 has but still, they are quite neat don't you think?
The players faces and the way the crowd moves(yes they make the 'wave', stand up when scored, wave their arms etc... take a good look at the crowd)makes up for the graphics I think.
The bugs can be very annoying but actually Infogrames are listening to waht we want improved in the game and within roughly a week they were developing a patch which should be out in the next few day.Have EA ever listened to what we wanted imrpoved, have EA ever made a patch for Fifa2001? NO THEY HAVEN'T
The patch will fix the bugs, it only takes a bit of reprogramming to fix them so why isn't it possible.Infogrames aren't only fixing the bugs, they are adding things to the game!
If the editor sucks, tell them, they might even be so friendly to think of improving that!
Believe me, this game outweights Fifa2001 by far, because the gameplay doesn't make you think too much about the graphics.
Here is a list of what the patch will include:

Graphics Engine.

- small fix for fog on some stadiums ( railings not fogged)
- z calculation fix for flags ( they sometimes dissapeared into stadium )
- update of core engine dlls ( stealth directory )
- fixed ball rebounding off something invisible during throwins on some stadia.
- fixed referee now does have footprints when he runs on the field
- Fixed frontend <-> ingame controller selection indicators and colours.
- lots off ingame fixes to menus.

Audio.
- fixed resource leak upon restart match.
- tweeked some samples.
- fixed no soudcard exit in front end ( game will now run with no sound card )

Frontend

- Fixed graphics card selection for 3dfx cards.
- new save game screen.


In game AI

- ball wandering at kick off Fixed
- ball out of play, players can't retrieve ball - need to exit game fixed
- throw ins, ball on floor Fixed
- corner given at wrong end of pitch fixed
- penalty, ball moving on its own Fixed
- Shot against post counted as goal
- Ball going through net
- Human team players occasionally standing still when under attack
- Player select for bouncing balls, post collisions and goalie parries
- Ball "just hanging" when out of play (e.g. Old Trafford)
- fixed some throw in bugs as well (e.g. Highbury)
- Lobbed ball lowered
- first time passing is implemented, just not on a double tap.
- CPU can't tackle from behind as easily now.
- many other playability 'tweeks'.
- game seems to lockup at goal replay
- fix to logic to eliminate long stalls when loading samples etc.

Extras.

Engine.
Pressing 'b' at any time during the game will begin recording all rendered frames to the game directory.
Pressing 'n' at any time during the game will stop recording all rendered frames to the game directory.
Pressing 'v' at any time during the game will record a single rendered frame to the game directory.

- Added Console just press <Scroll Lock> to enable it, you sould see "Conole Open:-" on screen
- The following Commands are avaliable.
- setplayerscale <float>
- setplayerheadscale <float>
- bigheads
- smallheads
- normalheads
- framerate
- version

- dumpkit
- dumps the current kit to the run directory
- you can edit these file which are 256x256x3 ( 24 bit ) raw files
- if you then place them in a new directory called "NewKit" in the same directory as the .exe
- the game will use YOUR new kit in the game.


Audio.

in <game install directory>\data\audio\<gamelanguage>\script ther is a file called "AS.sds"
this file contains a simple commentry script.

the entry is as follows.

Comment file (INFC0000.wav to INFC0016.wav) Priority 1 playback volume (0-255)
AS_COM_QUESTIONABLEFOUL , //AS_FILE: INFC 17 AS_PRIORITY: 1 AS_VOL: 250

- using this script you can change any part of the game volume

was NO NEED for a patch!!!!
Why would you ever release an unfinished game?
I'm sure they knew of al these bugs when they put it on the shelfs...

Ack! why waste our time posting the TXT again?? thats 3 times now.

Secondly, everything u mention being good about the game is all cosmetic. Who cares about that stuff. Who cares if a player falls over nicely, or the crowd waves, etc. Its all just pretty pictures.

The MAIN thing is the gameplay, which I'm sorry to say is pretty poor.

Defenders dont defend, selected characters run around on their own often going in opposite directions to what I'm telling them to do with the controls, passing is slow, switching players is tedious with a completely seperate button and is not even reliable (lost count how many times i'm bashing the key only to see nothing change), your AI controlled team players dont go for loose balls even if its right next to them, and as for shots a goal its back to Fifa96 style. There's certainly no aiming or skill involved there.

I have my fingers crossed for this patch, but I doubt all these issues will be resolved so quickly. And until they are, this game simply wont be as popular or successfull as it could be.

All I can say is that I was VERY excited about this game, but after playing with it for a while I dont think I've been so frustrated and overall distraught by a game before. So close, yet so far.

Alot of potential, but that means nothing if it never acheives it. Good luck guys!

In fifa2001 there was no need for a patch to fix bugs? that is **** mate total ****!!!
In fifa2001 whenever you changed the players name the commentator wouldn't say his name anymore, all the crowd could chat was United United, even when Inter was playing AC Milan!
Fifa2001 had great graphics but the gameplay sucked.
Infogrames are now releasing a patch which will make the game perfect.
Have you got the game or are you just jumping on the badwagon?!?!?!

THe gameplay isn't poor! the gamplay is the best there is in that game, of all the football games for the PC UEFA Challenge has the best gameplay of all!

Why don't you just take your Fifa2001 and shove it yer fat ass

Fifa2001 gameplay is also pretty poor, its main problem being that it all seems very scripted. I dont play that anymore either because it can get a little frustrating, but overall it just gets boring.

While UEFA has a much more flowing, dynamic feel to the game, which is great, overall gameplay is also pretty poor.
What good is great flowing football, if defenders dont defend, you cant control attacks, infact you cant really control anything with any certainty. Players do their own things, sometimes not even anything at all, u cant select who you want sometimes, the list goes on.

While the game has ALOT of potential, certainly enuff potential to kick Fifa senseless, it's definitely not there yet.

With all the bugs, and lack of control how can anyone with any sense say the gameplay is good. In all honesty, you cant. Unless you're 12.

Philler he's been agreeing with you all along anyway like its been said earlier ISS PE2 has the gameplay that either Uefa or Fifa has to match and since the uefa developers are communicating - not just lurking - on these boards its their game that has the most potential.

Also why the hell isnt it being released here?? That Uefa Striker (eidos??) game is available on all formats here and has sold well. Wonder if PS2 version will be shipped outside of Europe.

You just got the game today, give it some time. It seems as if you only played a few games. Also, keep in mind a patch will be coming out soon. Which will fix many of the bugs you mentioned.

Look. When you score in fifa2k1, would you shout "YESSS!!!!" then watch the replay? For me, it's no. I'm sure it's the same with most people even during the demo downloaded from EA's site.

But in the games: ISS, STARS and UEFA C., I would because the goal is hard to get. I would watch the replay of my hard earned goal because I'm proud of it. That says much about gameplay.

With the patch, i'm sure things WOULD get better. So, those who find UEFA C. fustrating now, wait for the patch and I'm sure the game will be much better.
