Owen is rumoured to have "gracefully" said no to the offer, i guess its seen as somewhat of a career wrecker nowadays.

But isnt Casino Royale a spoof film and not officially a part of the Bond franchise? Daniel Craig seems perfectly suited to play the spoof Bond of Peter Sellers but not so much the franchise Bond. I'm pretty sure he wont continue with the role beyond CR, anyway, so speculation is not now totally pointless as I expect the straight Bond franchise could pick someone like Clive Owen or revert back to Peirce still, though I doubt Pierce would take it now.

its already been confirmed Nird. By the way it WONT be the same, the producers have already set out that it will go back to basics with Bond being younger and with less gadjets.

I hope not. It's REALLY time for some originality in the new movie. Yet I fear another:
Enemy want's to take over the world
Bond take the mission
Bond kill 500 guys with a gun that holds 10 bullets
Does something with his clock and some super-pen with lasers and bombs inside
Enemy has one 'right-arm' that is very strong and almost kills Bond, but Bond miraculously kills him at the end with some crazy trick and has some catchy-comment to finish it all off.
The 'Lair' blows up
Bond finds a girl that he makes out with at the end

I think Tarantino should have directd it as he wanted to. Then I belive it would have been an 'Original bond movie' :)

It was confirmed today. it was a whole press conference just for it. and I read that too about Casino Royale.

the Peter Seller/Woody Allen movie was a spoof, but this one will be a real JB movie based on the Ian Fleming novel

yeah our resident film man Hakeem is right :p Casino Royale is gonig to be the real deal, but dont expect it out for a while yet. Personally i think in a Doctor Who twist, Craig will make his name then jump ship as soon as possible; and who can blame you.

Again Nird, they have been quick to say that the film will go back to the more espionage basics of the earlier films, with Bond sneaking around a lot more.

Hopefully the music will also be redone, recently the main "theme" has been overused to the point of extinction.

When I am a world famour film director, which shouldnt be too long from now, I would like to write from scratch then shoot a proper Old Skool Bond film. I mean, they are pretty much out of Fleming material now (as this remake suggests) so they are gonna need to start writing them to keep the franchise going.

At least Casino Royale is sort of a step in the right direction though, I mean, there shouldnt be too much room for stupid invisible cars or sun-capturing laser beams in it. I am looking forward to it, will definately go see it and hope Craig does well. It's also the sort of film that Daniel Craig could easily leave after, I mean, it's the only Bond remake ever and it's going back quite a way so, even if it is official, it will still seem to be, to some extent, a one off.

Nird,

The one Tarantino wanted to direct was Casino Royale, but he would almost certainly have kept it spoof.

I dont have a problem with the formula you mentioned, that's all I expect from a Bond film and I allow them license to be repetitive, and a touch unrealistic, so long as they entertain me. Though I do maintain that all the best Bond films are the one's where the villain isnt trying to take over the world, but just has some smaller agenda (eg Goldfinger, Man with the Golden Gun, Live and Let Die, Tommorow Never Dies etc). All I want from a Bond film is those classic traits of the originals, and it's when they try to vary the formula with stupidly unrealistic stuff or unexpected touches, such as Bond being tortured for 18 months, that I get turned off the franchise.

yeah i have to agree Sir_Didier_Drogba to be honest, i think it can easily be summed up that the more unrealistic the plot (world domination, stupid cars, hard weapons) only make the films worse, it seems that while other films can get away with such stupidity the fans of such an old sub-genre as Bond cannot be swayed as easily.

If you look at it like that its hardly surprising they've gone back to basics.

Though I'm not convinced they entirely will. A bit of unbelievably is fine, hell it's what we want, interesting gadgets, rediculously loose women and such like, but they've just been taking it further and further (the Stealth Boat was the borderline) and now there's been so much which has just been silly. I dont know if they'll be able to break the habit, no matter how much they go on about going back to basics. That's why they should get me in to direct it :p

yeah, I get your point and all, but I really don't think there is a market for even more Bond films. The previous ones haven't really been any boxoffice knockouts. The only ones that will go to see upcoming bondmovies are the ones TROD speaks of there; "fans of such an old sub-genre" and the film-critics.
They would have to something really special in this one to make it like the first movies.

yeah, they really have to make different from the previous ones and make it special.
I loved Golden Eye, liked Tomorrow Never Dies, but The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day were awful. I specially hated Bond having a girl spy sidekick like Halle Berry's Jinx.

I would love of Matthew Vaughn could direct this movie and make it in the same style as Layer Cake but set in the Bond world and with more spionage.
but Martin Campbell is directing. he made Golden Eye so that's great, but he also directed the Zorro movies, Vertical Limit and Beyond Borders :|

While Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies were good Bond films (I won't mention the two most recent pathetic films), it still wasn't the same as the classic Connery/Moore Bond movies. There was something missing. They just didn't captivate that Bond charm.

I really do hope they stick to their words and go back to basics with this one because the way it was going we might aswell have gone to see Vin Diesel in XXX. Having Daniel Craig as Bond seems like a good choice, he seems to fit into the Connery mould of Bond actors.

Defenitely looking forward to it.

Yeah, Matthew Vaughn would be a great choice actually, experienced in working with Craig, experienced on top British films and probably quite good with the British character actors which are important to any Bond film. Michael Mann is another possibility, if he would be willing to take on the job, being noted as an expert in action films with real suspense and aesthetic quality.

I agree with what you say about Die Another Day and World is Not Enough too, and I hated Goldeneye aswell. I did enjoy Tommorow Never Dies because it was such an original storyline and Johnathon Price was a great bondvillain, despite Michelle Yeoh being a terrible Bond girl, but it my opinion it is the only good Bond film out of the four modern ones.

I doubt they'll ever be able to get that sixties/seventies Moore/Connery charm again, but that shouldnt stop them trying :p

this is the weirdest of all things in what you say Sir_Didier_Drogba, me and you constantly disagree with films, but the ONE thing i cannot understand with any kind of reasoning, is the fact you prefer Tomorrow Never Dies over Goldeneye.

I'm not having a go but if you havent seen Goldeneye recently (since you've been mature :D) i do recommend watching it, cos i cannot honestly believe you can like something such as the repetetive Tomorrow Never Dies to a veritible Bond masterpeice that Goldeneye was.

Obviously im totally biased as i genuinly regard Goldeneye as one of my favourite ever movies, not just Bond.
