who to buy? (FM 2006)

Hi guys, just finished my first season with Totenham. and topped the league so i think i did pretty well (the trick is to get the best coaches). Anyhow i got an offer of 23m from Chelsea for Jermain Defoe and i didnt want to sell him, but, at the same time i didnt want defoe to know i rejected their offer as he mite be unhappy with me and mite wanna leave the club. so anyway i renegotiated their offer to 160m thinking that they would cancel the negotiations. To my shock however, they accepted my outrageous offer. I thought well, even though defoe is a good player, i would sell him for that amount any time.
so here i am in the pre season stage of my second season at totenham. with 160m to spend. kapo has been my only signing while at the club (for 5m) while defoe and and rasiak have been the departures.
I fear that without defoe, my chance of retaining the premiership is pretty low (he scored 28 goals in 39 games last season, bloody amazing).
Any recomendations as to how i should spend my 160m.

i need:
i) Two strikers: preferably one first team striker and one reserve one
ii) Two central defenders: one to go alongside king, and the other for the bench
iii) One attacking right back: i need a full back here, preferably a big name
iv) One defensife left full back: i need a defensive full back to take lee's place. one that doesnt go forward to much (someone like heinze, gallas etc)
v)One winger: i need a typical quick winger (like robben)
vi) One first choice goalie: to take robinsons place ( i never liked him)
vii) One defensive midfielder

As good as i am at managing a team, i am piss poor when it comes to signing players, please help me out here

Do you really need a DM? I had to fight off major competition to get Carrick in my game, he's incredibly consistent.

BTW, I tend to play with Chelsea, so most of my knowledge is based on them, so I'm not all that useful...

Anyways:
1. Tevez is my greatest goalscorer, but he gets injured a lot, Drogba is also great.
2. Ben-Haim, from Bolton, has a great future in the game, and is always one of my best defenders, he's definitely worth being a reserve if you don't think he's up to first team, though.
3. Iraola from Bilbao, really good player.

Simao is pretty good, but in my experience he's inconsistent, Duff is ace, whenever I don't play with Chelsea him and Cole seem to want to leave, and Chelsea always offers them, so maybe they won't ask you for much. If you can get C.Ronaldo or Robben, hats off to you, once you buy everything that you need, make a huge offer for them (enquire first), but I dobut you'd ever get them.
6. Curci, De Sanctis, Cudicini, Rogerio Ceni, Marcos, are all good, but I think they'r all really old as well. Aouate is incredible with a year of training, but he's injury prone.
7. If you really want one, I heared Sivok becomes a beast, but I still think Carrick is great. Makelele is probably one of the best in the game, and he's old, so you can get him cheap.

See if you can get Essien, he can play nearly every position, as long as you train him to, and he has great, balanced stats.

Well, that's all I can help you with, but I suggest you listen to nor-brk and check that out.

that's total madness! did you get the patch! sounds like chelski are getting desperate or another FM bug, perhaps?

They aren't being desperate because Defoe is one of the best strikers in the game, I once played with Fiorentina and they offered more than 200m for him during the 2nd season. I had them lower their offer to 50m and got Gudjohnssen, Essien and Del Horno, though.

For a good central defender go after Ze Castro. Hangeland is also good, plus I picked up this guy from Porto called Bruno Alves on a free transfer in 2008 and he's got good stats plus he'll get the job done and is a very popular player amongst his teammates. He'll liven up the team morale, no doubt. Alves also will get his fair share of assists plus he hits a killer free-kick from short range

For a DM you could easily also go with Hangeland. Another guy I've played with who is a good DM as well is Olivier Auriac from France, but can't remember which club he'd be playing for, just do a search. Plus you can set Auriac to a very creative role as well as a defensive workhorse, he'll do the job either way.

For a quick winger, if you're looking for a left winger search for a player named Zoran Zjelkovic. He's slovenian. Positions will show you he's a natural WBL, but don't be fooled, he's plays even better in his accomplished role of ML. His pace is 20, dribbling and accelearation around 19 and creativity is 20 as well. I'm in 2008 in my game and he's picked up 7 MOM awards from 14 appearances Set him to run with ball and he'll run a maze around your opponents, also give him a free role. He's a maniac with ball at his feet, plus he'll give you plenty of assists.
