who knows about cars

Im looking to a buy a new car this summer and im looking for a resource that will tell me which cars are considered sports cars in terms of insurance. I just cant afford insurance on a sports car.

Im gonna have around 7-8k saved up, I dont really know what I could get for that money so throw some ideas guys. Taking a loan is out of the question so I cant go up higher in price.

Around 70k miles tops, 1999 or newer...

Right now im thinkin about a VR6 or 1.8t Jetta. A lot of people tend to think its a girls car but I dont really see why. I like the coupe Accords too but I think I might be outpriced on those.

Are all the Eclipse trims classified under sports cars? What about the Integras? GTIs?

i'm driving a honda accord at the moment

with the sports car thing, i think they tend to say 2 door/coupe are sports cars
is there any sort of power restrictions on the car you can drive?

i just put my car under my mum's name and got the insurance under her name too, now i only pay $770 a year compared to $2500 which is what it would be under my name
i'm classified as an "incidental" driver, so if i crash there has to be a bit of lying as to why i was driving the car

It's not as simple as that, there's 2-door Civics and i bet you those arent classified as sports cars. And then on the other hand you have an STi and it's a 4-door.

My insurance is about 1900 a year even though I'm under my parents name and I drive a piece.

if I had 7k I certainly wouldn't buy a car. I'd buy a few awesome guitars, some CD's, take a great holiday and have a good time. I guess over here it's different though, it's all bikes :p

Don't exactly know why it happens , but take a look around...for some reason alot of girls drive those cars?

Well yes but I still dont see what's girly about it?

To me a Beetle is a girly car, a Ford Focus, a Mazda Protege, a Celica, a Civic (except the 06), damn even the Scion TCs have something girly about them..... Yet still Jetta is regarded as a girls car more than those.

I don't play the guitar, I'll download the CDs, and then I can drive to the beach in my new car ;)

pretty weird to go for a Jetta when you want a Sports Car. They don't really look sporty at all.

I'd go for an S2000 right now if I had the cash for the insurance and gas.

Maybe a Civic TypeR as the engine kicks ass for the car it is, don't know about the insurance on this one. If I wanted to go diesel a Seat Leon Cupra is the way to go, cheapest car for its performance and doesn't look bad at all.
I'm not talking about the newer models of both these cars though, because they're both horrible now.

I see you're looking at the VR6, I also love that car but if you're on a budget I'd go for Seat Leon, the cars are basically the same (same engine and all) but in the VW you pay the brand price of being a VW.

Finally there's also the Mini Cooper S which is (H) for me but I know lots of people don't like it. And it's pricy too.

Seat are great sporty cars, perfect for young people, i love'em! If i remember correctly, Leon has won "best car for young people" last 3 or 4 years in a row in a german magazine or smth, dunno for sure.

A black Seat Leon Cupra (not the newer version, the one Virgo is talking about) is the dreamcar i hope i will afford after college. Right now i drive an Ibiza (year 2000) and i'm absolutely in love with it.

below the age of 20 in the UK, you're lucky to get a relatively new car that isnt a Corsa, 206 (or 106), micra or a pre-2001 Yaris (when they changed the design).

However, most people go for a better but older car.

Apart from the rich kids who get a Golf bought for them on their 17th birthday...

Yeah I know a guy who drives a Bmw M3 since he got his license at 18.

but I can't really talk much because my dad bought me a new MG ZR too, not too shabby, although I'm far from rich, I just know how to handle my folks.

I think the mini coopers are awesome...the crash safety kind of scares me though, especially with the number of Hummers out there.

I dont really want a sports car. I just want a classy looking car with a powerful engine, if I had more money to spend Id be looking at an IS300, A4 or a 3 series BMW. Jetta is probably the best I can do in my price range though.

maybe it's just me and my taste but the Jetta (it's called Bora here) doesn't really appeal to me. It just looks very generic, like any other car around. Not an eye catcher for sure.

How about a Mazda RX-8? They're kickass cars. Maybe a bit out of your price range.

Are you guys sure then don't sell Seats in the US? I'm not one for spanish products in general but I got to say the Leon Cupra R is the perfect family/sporty combo car, budget friendly as well and it looks good.

Just remembered another kickass car of that type.

i don't know much about insurance i'm not even sure how much mine is my mom me my brother and dad are all on the same insurance. my car is a 1995 nissan maxima but it runs great and only has 45,000 miles on it cause my grandpa gave it to me and he really never drove that much since hes old and all.

my friend next door used to have a used jetta i think it was a 2003 but his parents had to put so much money into it to fix some stuff that they just sold it and bought him the new civic its pretty cool but they got it in a maroon color, the car is pretty cool but i don't like the color
