England is without their first choice full back, Rooney is half the player he usually is, Lampard has missed about 400 shots, Terrys been shaky and your only way of scoring is off Beckham free kicks (which either involve a Paraguayan heading into his own net or an Ecuadorian keeper who dives as slow as my mom ) ......

But the objective in this game was who was the better cheater, atleast in the players minds.

OMG what a night!!!

just got back from partying with my buds. we watched the match in Castelo do Queijo, and then we went for a "francesinha e fino", and drank a lot of Super Bock (since in Castelo they only served Sagres :X )

I was going to comment a lot on the match but it's useless, this thread has gone to the crapper!

I just want to congratulate the portuguese players (like Miguel and Ricardo Carvalho) for their heart and strength in a very very complicated match

Holland was not superior. We could have made it 2-0 with chances by Miguel and Tiago on counters.

Deco's sending off is desgraceful. And so was Heitinga's anti fair play attitude. Terrible performance by Ivanov

Ronaldo will play, he came off just because the leg got swollen from the impact of Boulharouz's(sp?) boot, it was nothing muscular so I'd put money on him playing.

And no fullbacks will be missing, just Costinha who is our only pure DM but we have Petit for his spot who is weaker in the air but has a bigger work rate and attacks better. Figo will play in Deco's spot and Simao will start which is not bad news because Simao has been playing excellently and he will want to shine to show himself eyeing a possible transfer to England.

Our goal is achieved, of course we all dream of getting to the semis but no one will be crucified if we lose especially considering we have beaten England the last 2 times around and you can't win every time.

I went back a page, realized Mikey wants us to win and that's where I stopped reading. I can only wonder what might have lead to that...

I'm not going to insult anybody, just leave a couple notes:

1) Van Basten was one of my childhood heros. He majorly disappointed me yesterday.
As a guy whose career was shortened by severe injuries, it was with astonishment I saw Dutch players clearly targeting Cristiano in the first minutes of the match. They finally got him out of the match a few minutes later.

2) Portugal is one of the few teams out there - club competition included - that when gives the ball back actually gives up possession (by passing the ball to the goalie) and not just sending it out of bounds for a throw-in - which usually results in a 50% chance of getting possession back.
What the dutch did was just . What a shame for them. It also cost Deco his first yellow card.

3) It was a war out there last evening, but we won it valiantly. Great for us and our players.
We partied hard and we're super happy. Can't wait for saturday.
