Virtual Error with my WSM 2008

I have enjoyed my WSM 2008 game for three months without problem...until today.

At the end of the transfer period (31 August in England) (dunno if this has anything to do with it), once I click continue, I get the following messages:

A serious error was encountered and the program will close. An error file has been generated in c:\...\...\worldwidesoccer manager 2008\crash dumps\

but there is nothing in that folder.

2nd message:
WSM has experienced a problem and needs to close.

3rd message:
Runtime error! Pure virtual function call

And the application goes away.

Suggestions, please.

This particular season is my first (two game months).

It happened on my other saved game (Nigerian national team) after two game years, so I started the current club season to determine if it was just a fluke, and the very same thing is happening.
