Video Games Adaptations - 2006/07 Edition -

Grand Theft Auto would make a far better violent TV series, along the lines of The Soprano's, but more pretentious and with more humour.

guess I'm the only one who thinks it's totally stupid to keep making films based in videogames especially when they're mostly action games and the plot is just there as a distraction.

they also don't even tend to pick up the games with a good story, they pick the games that sold well. Max Payne has a good story... For a videogame, for a movie I agree it would a watered down version of Sin City but no one picks up the games with truly great stories like oldschool adventure games, the ones where the story was the biggest part of the game like Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Full Throttle.

This is marketing pure and simple, and I for one won't take the bait and watch plotless crap like Doom or Resident Evil anymore, just because "I was a fan of the videogames".

Yes it would, i agree with that. But i would prefer the GTA San Andreas type (gangs, street violence and drugs) than GTA III/Liberty City Stories type (italian mob) because it would be some kind of copy of The Soprano's.

A couple of posts ago i read about Driver the movie, very interesting idea, could be a great movie :chew:

Anything by the old Lucas Arts would make a great movie!
Or any of the Old PC games by that matter.

How I would love to see "Beneath a Steel Sky" get made into a film.

Many people believe that the Nintendo era was the golden era of video games, how naive they are, but let's not get into that.

For good VideoGames to be picked though, it will take that atleast one of these current movies that are being made, be a real success. Then Hollywood will definitely give the older titles some real interest. There's just this huge demographic that would love to see this happen, and companies will smell the money right away.

Let's just pray, that Halo will be that one success. With a personality as Peter Carlos*son behind it, it might just rekindle the interest of companies like, Lucas Arts. What are they going to do next? More Star Wars?

nah, imagine it actually set in 70's/80's Miami like Vice City, just picture the amount of fun the show could have poking humour at the stereotypical movies of the time, and throw in some really interest plots based around the political forces at the time.

Just be interesting to see a major series set in the past.

that would be too expensive, that's just why they don't do it.

One thing is to film something like Sci-Fi in a closed set, another is to close streets, get the cars and getting everyone and everything to look like the 70's.

yeh i know, but high-budget series have been made before. Imagine the press a GTA series would get, every country on the planet would want it. Essentially it'd be a hollywood series, 24 mini-films, Lost did it.

Thought admittidly, to get things to a 70's setting would probably cost **** loads, maybe leave it a decade until CGI becomes even better and cheaper lol

That game is awesome, I finished it a while ago and it's just absolutely amazing. The only slight disapointment are the graphics and a few other minor things but the voices, storyline is just flawless.

It would defenitely make an amazing movie if it had such a good storyline.

The Starsky and Hutch movie did it :p ... got the cars, the actors, the dancing, and everything looked just like the 70's ... but yea i got your point, it's very expensive to transform actual Miami to the 70's Miami ... make the city look like Miami Vice (H) . But if a big studio from Hollywood takes the project, this maybe could be real, just imagine Jenna Jameson playing Candy Suxxx (like in the game) when she's acting in Tommy's studio movie :hump:

a budget of a TV series has nothing to do with the budget of a film especially when it's a commercial feature like Starsky and Hutch.

A Monkey Island movie would be awesome! I've been addicted to Escape From Monkey Island for a looonggg time... The storyline in it was great. I think it would be a very entertaining movie.
