Transfers IN:

I mostly signed youngsters who weren't going to make it in higher leagues for their clubs and unattached mercenaries. I mostly gave them one year deals to see how they'll do, especially the older fellas. Markuz Kreuz is a 35 year old 1.Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga veteran (though he played his final 1.Bundesliga game in 2004 for Frankfurt) and he'll captain our side this season.

I'm excited about 25 year old left winger Sergio Peter. He flopped at Blackburn and Sparta Prague before signing for German Oberliga side Neckeralz. He's giving his career a possibly final shot at Lübeck. He'll have something to prove.

You will get to know the rest along the way. It's nothing special to be honest, let's say 10's or 11's in some categories they're supposed to be good at for their position.

And so Lübeck debuts an entirely new first XI in the Regionalliga Nord Opening Day versus Schwarz-Weiss Rehden at POKERSTARS.DE-STADION AN DER LOHNMÜHLE.

Line-Ups:

(Only Marheineke and Mokhtari were already at Lübeck.)

The result is disappointing, we were considered easy favorites, but it's not entirely strange considering the players passed a ball to each other for the first time. I'm glad Sergio Peter got a Man of the Match performance from the go, that'll boost his confidence. We're going to need him!

How Regionalliga works: 18 teams, each time plays each other twice, totalling in 34 games. First placed team qualifies for the Promotion Playoffs with teams from the other Regionen. Bottom three teams relegate to the Oberliga.

Heimat, Steel, the Von Matterhorn's and Heinecken expect us to win immediately.

The 1496 people in attendance today (it seems a lot less to be honest) at Pokerstars.de-Stadion an der Lohnmühle don't know they may have witnessed the birth of a future dynasty.

Made some fancier signings before the transfer deadline after a couple of draws...

Signed from Varese. Played for several La Squadra Azzurra age categories and AS Roma, Lazio Roma and Genoa youth academies. Didn't make a single appearance for any of those clubs. Hardly a star in Serie C.

Signed from Fortuna Köln from Regionalliga West. Couldn't cut it at 3.Bundesliga side Offenbach.

Fun fact: Uncle of future Chelmsford player Patrick Pospischil.

And finally left winger Sergio Peter, whom I already introduced.

Peter and Pospischil already combined for a couple of goals and assists to record our first wins of the season versus Weiche and Victoria Hamburg. Eusepi is a star at hitting the crossbar.

They might have given him really bad hidden mental attributes (imp matches/consistency).

Nice update!

Weihnachtsgrüße from Lübeck!

From the Christmas market of Lübeck I greet all of you Genossen. It has been a good first half of the season. The Peter-Pospischil-Eusepi trio in attack provided warmth and great entertainment on cold Fall Saturday evenings in the most depressing stadia of North Germany. They were backed by a talented young man I signed from Freiburg: Christian Bickel. He stepped in for the injured Taljevic (one of those experienced veterans on a one year deal) and I never looked back. Oh hey, I see Christian right there at the Bratwurst stand! ''Christian, come here and introduce yourself!''

''Ok, you can go now.''

Stat leaders:
Goals: 15 Eusepi (leads the league), 9 Bickel, 8 Peter
Assists: 11 Pospischil (leads the league), 8 Peter, 7 Bickel

Sergio Peter has found his place. I don't think he'll be a key player in higher divisions (maybe a nice squad player), but he'll do just fine for now. Same goes for Pospischil and Eusepi. All three are very consistent and as of yet nothing to be bothered about. 35-year old Mercenary and Lübeck Kapitän Markus Kreuz scored some excellent screamers from outside the box. Solid leadership, although I may invest playing time in my younger signings in the second half of the season.

League Standings:

Pretty good. If we win the league (and I think we will) we'll also participate in the 2013-2014 DFB-Pokal regardless of performance in the Playoffs and eventual promotion (I think).

There is also one sad bit of news. Could be the end of the season for Sergio. I'll move Bickel to left wing now with Taljevic in the center.

Not sure yet what I'll do in the winter transfer window. Unless I can significantly improve the roster I think I may just get rid of dead wood on the team and finish the season with the current squad.

I'll leave you with some more Christmas impressions from Lübeck.

The moment I saw Eusepi's pic in the previous post I thought that he was way too good for this league. Guess I was right. He looks like he could play in the Championship.

He looks good, but terrible first touch and lack of either strength/speed would be shown up at higher levels. Not great of the ball either.

Die Meister from the Nord Regionen: VfB Lübeck!

However, an unbelievable and major blow to our promotion hopes. :(

Eusepi finished the season with 25 goals. He's shared Nord top goalscorer with Justin Eilers from Goslar. Christian Pospischil finishes as top assister with 15.

In January I signed Simon Cziommer from Vitesse. He had an expiring contract but I decided to get him immediately. He's way too good for this league, right? Well, he's been playing like he's been past it for a while. I may not even start him in the Playoffs. His contract expires in 2014 and he has a 'Match Highest Earner' clause. The next manager way want to get rid of him this summer.

The entire team is struggling with minor injuries like the flu. I'm sending every sneezing f*cker home, but it keeps spreading. In the last couple of games I tried to play the reserves which resulted in four straight draws to end the season. Meh. Pierre Merkel will stand in for Eusepi in the game for promotion.

The stage is set - TimePartner Arena, Cloppenburg. A one game Final for promotion to 3.Bundesliga.

(Yeah, ''Arena''.)

Ya, Knut is a sugar daddy. We have a lot more to spend than our rivals in this division, we're the only club that could afford players like Bickel, Eusepi and Cziommer. In the third and second Bundesliga (let alone the first) the differences won't be as significant I think. Enough to keep building a solid and fun squad.

I think we're aiming for Hoffenheim-type progress (but further!).

I made the Chelmsford chairman have 20 for resources and all those categories, so as long as you didn't go overboard like that we should have a more realistic, Hoffenheim type game.

I forgot to edit Knut Heimat's chairman settings! I checked and his stats are: Business 12, Interference 6, Patience 15, Resources 5. No worries though, he's been pumping money into the club this season when monthly losses were made. It's good this way.

0-0, 92nd minute... Pospischil to Bickel!

TOOORRRR!!!

(H)

What a win. It was a pretty stale and boring game. Cziommer couldn't do anything, again, so Bickel came on around the 65th minute and won us promotion. What a season for him!

Regionalliga Nord Team of the Year:

I saved the game on May 29th. A lot of contracts are expiring next month, including staff. It's up to the next manager to decide whom he wants to keep. I'm sure there are a lot of improvements to be made on every level of the club. We also need a new assistant manager. His contract is expiring and he's not very good.

I'll upload the game shortly.

You dick (H)

I almost hope I don't get promoted, but we'll see what happens. While you're uploading, do you mind giving me a rundown on the players, specifically the guys with expiring contracts, youngsters, and who you think can contribute in the 3.Bundesliga.

Haha, when the game was about to go into extra time I was hoping I'd lose on penalties for drama and heartbreak. This was a pretty dramatic ending aswell, so I'm content.

Anyway, 2012-2013 starters with expiring contracts:

Markus Kreuz (just turned 36): German midfielder and 2012-2013 Kapitän with creative and leadership qualities. Warrior performance this year, contributing 6 goals and 6 assists. I think he's through, though.

Josip Colina (32, turns 33 in October): Hardworking, brave Bosnian defender with ability to be dangerous in set piece plays. I even got a message Bosnia's national manager was in the stands for him during the promotion final (a 32 year old without a single cap!) I'd say keep him around.

Moritz Marheineke (28, turns 29 next year): Decent German defender, average in every category. Started all year long, made the occasional mistake. Not convinced he'll add something to the squad in 3.Bundesliga. He's just too insecure. He's on a very small contract, MAYBE keep him around as 4th/5th defender.

Ifet Taljevic (32, turns 33 this year): Talented creative midfielder/attacking midfielder. Didn't play a lot for me because of Bickel's excellent year. Austrian Premier League team Wiener Neustadt is looking at him. I'd say keep him on the roster.

Another one that could add something is back-up right back Scheuring. I rotated him with young talented RB Leutenecker. Useful.

Rest of the expiring contracts whom I don't think will add anything: AMR Mokhtari, AMR/ST Hauck, CB Schulz, GK2 Toboli, CB Hube (already promised him he can go) and ST Diabang. Diabang is quite strong, but he's old and won't improve.

There's also a sh*tload of deadwood on Lübeck Zwei you can disregard (also expiring contracts). Davis Klak MIGHT be worth a look.

Key players and talents that should be tied down (with current contracts until 2014/2015):
Umberto Eusepi, Sergio Peter, Fabio Leutenecker, Sebastian Enderle, Christian Bickel, Christian Pospischil and Tom Mickel

Pain in the ass: Simon Cziommer. He may do well for you... But f*cking hell, what a disappointing player.

I'll pick it up tonight or tomorrow. Should have it done by the end of the week easy. Maybe just a couple days.
