Very odd lagging problem. Wasn't there before...

I've done a lot of searches around forums and such, and so far, no success.

Immediately after I first installed FIFA 08 on my laptop, there was gameplay lagging. Then I tried updating my video driver and that did just the trick. Played up to a whole season.

Now, when I start a match, gameplay is nice and smooth for about a minute or so, then there is very heavy lagging, worse than the first time around.

I've tried shutting down background applications, clean up my hard drive, defrag, increasing virtual memory, reinstalling the video drivers, but the problem's still there.

I'm begging for some help. I love this game!!

I'm running a brand new Dell XPS 1530 with 3.5 gigs of RAM, and nVidia Geforce 8600M.

help...please.. I played the game without a problem for a whole season...it's very cruel to have the game unplayable now, after getting my team promoted...

Appreciate your reply, Steve, thanks. But u know what, after a process of elimination, i found out that the root of the problem was Vista! the os has so many background applications its ridiculous.

So i was contemplating to downgrade to XP ever since i got the new laptop, and i finally took the plunge...and after reinstalling fifa 08, the game is flowing like water now. :)
