In that case it seems fairly clear to me that my problem does not have to do with the language files.
In my case I don't even get to the language selection.
Actually I did get the Ukrainian League patches working with Fifa 11 and Fifa 10. With Fifa 11 it was a bit like you described (only the game did not crash) - I had to edit "my" language db to get the names in properly. I guess that's something I'll have to do later, but at this moment I don't even get there...

Another idea - as we can choose the language when installing the game through origin, would it help to choose russian and then install the patch? Anyone tried it?
