Uefa Champions League 06/07 Discussion

Does anyone here play UEFA Champions League 2006/2007 on PC?

I got this game recently and have really been getting into it.

How similar is this game to FIFA 07? By that I mean, do some of the mods and patches for FIFA 07 work for UCL 06/07?

I'd like to find a solution to the pitch looking gray in night matches and in some stadiums.

Also, I have applied the HALF_SECONDS = 2700 line of code to allow 90 minute matches, and the great thing about UCL 06/07 is that there is stoppage time that varies from 1 minute to 4 minutes at the end of each half.

Basically I have a few questions about the ai.ini files for UCL 06/07. So here goes:

1) In this game (and I guess for any FIFA game), what do these lines of code do?

// if these flamboyance overrides are commented out, then it uses FLAMBOYANT_AGGRESSION_THRESHOLD

HOME_GOALIE_FLAMBOYANT = 0

AWAY_GOALIE_FLAMBOYANT = 0

// why does this sound like a Sailor Moon attack?? it's meant to be the minimum aggression rating to be considered flamboyant

FLAMBOYANT_AGGRESSION_THRESHOLD = 4

I have read on another forum that if HOME_GOALIE_FLAMBOYANT and AWAY_GOALIE_FLAMBOYANT are set to 0, the goalie players attributes are used. This value is set to 1 by default, so does that mean that all goalies are supposedly the same rating unless you set that to 0? And what does FLAMBOYANT_AGGRESSION_THRESHOLD do? I set these both to 0 and leave FLAMBOYANT_AGGRESSION_THRESHOLD equal to 4? Is that the right thing to do? Should comment those lines out? What do you guys do here?

I would like to make it so the goalies in general are smart and make the correct decision making, but also would like to ensure that the goalie's ratings correctly are portrayed in terms of their skill on the pitch. (like how fast they dive for balls, how good their hands are, etc)

2) I'd like to generate discussion on where people who have UCL 06/07 or FIFA 07 set the dribble tuning values to to achieve the most realistic gameplay.(DRIBBLE_TURN_PLAYBACK_SPEED_MIN, DRIBBLE_TURN_PLAYBACK_SPEED_MAX, DRIBBLE_DEKE_PLAYBACK_SPEED_MIN, DRIBBLE_DEKE_PLAYBACK_SPEED_MAX, DRIBBLE_PACE_CONTROL_PLAYBACK_SPEED_MIN, DRIBBLE_PACE_CONTROL_PLAYBACK_SPEED_MAX)

I'd also like to know what people set the Trapping Tuning Values to and what people set the Tackling tuning values to.

I leave PTAVOIDDECEL equal to 0.05 (the default setting). What does increasing or decreasing this value do?

3) Finally, I am a bit confused about the variable called GAME_SPEED in ai.ini. Does changing this value do anything? I have it currently set at -20 as I am trying to slow down the pace of the game slightly since I am playing 90:00 matches and depending on the A.I. that I set, sometimes it seems like things are happening a bit too quickly.

I play the game on World Class and set the speed to Slow in the game menu.

Is anyone here interested in trying to make 90:00 matches with 45 minute halves as accurate and as realistic as possible for this game? I'd like to discuss ways to keep UCL 06/07 games low scoring over the full distance of a match, while keeping it exciting as well.

I'd like to figure out ways to make the goalie A.I. smart and have good reactions, while retaining their attributes in terms of skill. One thing I'd like to do is make it so the goalies stay back instead of charging out (since there is a manual charge button but no button to send them back towards the goal).

I think UCL 06/07 is a great game on the PC, a great game to play 90 minute matches and have them be exciting. I have been having some epic matches and this game can be a lot of fun.

Lets try to get some chatter going about the gameplay of this game and if possible share ways people have modified ai.ini for this game.

Haha. Ya know, I'd just like to know if anyone is playing this game because I really like it. Have you played it? How do you think it compares to FIFA 07?

I've played it, and IMHO it's basically FIFA 07 without Brazilian, Mexican and USA leagues, but with a "guided" story mode.

I had to replace the ball used in matches outside the UCL itself, because I couldn't barely see it, thanks to the lack of contrast with the pitch. But overall I believe that UCL looks better than FIFA.

I believe that most tweaks would work the same way, for both FIFA 07 and UCL 06/07, but I haven't tried it that much.

Yeah the Treble mode looks really interesting. I haven't gotten into it yet. I've mostly just been playing exhibition matches. The only other PC football game I have is Fifa WC 06, which is a good game, but needed mods. To me it seems that UCL 06/07 is much cleaner and the gameplay is much more refined out of the box when compared to that.

Well, I noticed that a few of the balls look really dark and are hard to see. But the UCL balls and the classic ball look fine. How did you replace the ball? Did you take the same ball from FIFA 07? What file do I have to edit to replace the ball? I noticed that the balls that had the dark shading luckily look like the same balls that were in FIFA WC 06, which looked fine in that game. The UCL League balls (like the 2000-2005 UCL match balls) didn't have this problem and looked fine to me. And the classic ball (which I don't believe was in WC 06) were fine also. But I'd like to be able to replace the ones that look dark and make them look brighter. How exactly would I go about replacing them? How did you replace them in UCL 06/07?

The main problem and more pressing issue I noticed is the turf looks gray for night games. I'd like to be able to make the turfs greener in color, or possibly import some better looking pitches possibly made for FIFA 07. (since it seems that not many people mod stuff for UCL 06/07) But I also worry that if I import a high resolution pitch, it may slow down my frame rate. In day games, for example, the green pitch looks greener than it does at night, although probably needs to still be greener anyway. Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Like I mentioned in another thread, there apparently was a turf / ball / net patch released like two years ago, but the links for that patch seemed to be outdated. Anyone know if there are turf / ball / net patches specifically for this game that I could install? The links may be outdated, but surely some people must have installed these patches years ago and may have the patch install files on their hard drive still? (hopefully)

I agree that UCL 06/07 does look really good. The stadiums are absolutely breathtaking, the weather effects are really great. Sometimes it rains, snows, and sometimes the rain and snow stops and starts in the middle of the game. And it really adds to the atmosphere in 90:00 matches. I also think the player models look good for a game released a few years ago. The frame rate is solid, and the game is well animated. I think this game looks and plays great and I hope to find people who still play this game.(Y)

Cool. Thanks for the info. I just don't wanna screw anything up and I have a feeling if I start installing patches for FIFA 07 in UCL 06/07 it may screw up the game somehow and I wanna keep the frame rate solid and whatever slight differences UCL 06/07 has over FIFA 07 intact.

Do you recommend trying to use 07 Turf Maker for UCL 06/07? Has anyone tried it?

Well, I did it with CM07 only. I've identified a ball that had a good contrast, and the ones with used the first ball texture, if memory helps, that were almost invisible. Then I've exported the model and texture of the visible ball, and imported them overwriting the "invisible" balls. You can create a patch with the ball you want and import it overwriting the undesired balls.

If memory helps, the "invisible" balls are 1, 5, 7 and 11. I've replaced them with the "classic" ball, but any visible ball could do the job. Replacing just the texture is useless - the brightness seems to be an attribute of the 3D model.

The only tool I've ever used with UCL06/07 was CM07.

UCL06/07 is really a solid game, and make a fine use of the scenery mode in the treble mode. It's quite a challenge to get to a match at 80th minute, losing 0-2, and get to win it at the end. :innocent_smile_1:

I agree. I can't get enough of this game. I play 45 minute halves and play a full 90 minute matches with stoppage time, and this game is really a great simulation of football over the full length. I am a in a match right now, I am the Tottenham Spurs and am playing against West Ham. The match is 5-5 at the half. Keane has two goals and Berbatov has two goals for the Spurs. Ashton has a Hat Trick for West Ham, scoring his 3rd goal and the equalizer in 1st half stoppage time. Ashton drew a penalty in the 16th minute, where my goalie was diving for the ball and Ashton fell over the goalie's outstretched hands and a penalty was called. That made it 1-1. I led 5-3 with the Spurs after the 33rd minute, but they came back to equalize right before half.

I have been tweaking the ai.ini file in config.dat and in ini.big and have been modifying parameters in the A.Profiles file through a hex editor (Hedit) and have found a lot of interesting nuances about this game.

One thing I did was set BPAVOID_RADIUS = 19. It was set at 15 by default and I think it adds a lot to the game. I also turned cross assistance off and have really learned how to cross with the analog stick. (it takes precise timing but you can really make some incredible crosses in this game)

I commented out HOME_GOALIE_FLAMBOYANT and AWAY_GOALIE_FLAMBOYANT with them set to 0, and I notice the keepers have really been playing great in this game. (despite the high scoring first half - a lot of that is due to me turning INJURY_PERCENTAGE up to 25 and INJURY_CHANCE_OF_WINDING up to 80)

I encourage anyone who plays this game to increase the time to 45 minute halves. If you have any questions about how to do that let me know. There is a "CLOCK" variable in A.PROFILES that cannot be set in game. (must be set with a hex editor like HEdit) and if you change the value (it's initially set to 1) the clock will run during stoppages to keep the game moving faster for 45 minutes halves.

This game is very challenging on World Class, but with a few modifications to ai.ini, and A.PROFILES, individual matches can become incredibly engrossing. 45 minutes halves are amazingly not boring at all. it's about counter attacking and crossing and passing, and dribbling. I turned DRIBBLE_SPEED_PENALTY equal to 0.3 so it makes players tire a bit more as the match goes on. (as it was at 0.4)

I am kind of surprised that more people do not play this game. I find it absolutely amazing. I think UCL 06/07 with a few modifications to the ini files and A.PROFILES file through a hex editor is one of my favorite sports games of all times. The things that happen throughout a 90 minute match keeps me on the edge of my seat. I can't describe how deep and rewarding this game can be. For those who have this game, I think it's very important for us to discuss this game. I haven't played FIFA 07, as I'm sure it's good and similar to this in some ways.

But I am just having such a great time with UCL 06/07 on PC that I feel that I owe it to those who love football games to really get the value out of this.

I'd like to get some roster updates for the PC version of UCL 06/07. Benayoun is on West Ham in this game! It's tough playing against him, but I'd rather have him on his current team as well as many others. I know there are many FIFA 07 roster updates, but are there any updates for UCL 06/07 or do the FIFA 07 roster updates somehow work for this game?

I don't know much about CM07 but I'd like to discuss this game with those who have the game and want to make it the best it can be.

Just had another classic UCL 06/07 90 minute match (plus stoppage time).

I was Man U playing at San Siro against Inter. Rooney started off the scoring in the 7th minute, and I led 1-0. Inter equalized in the 11th minute. I led 2-1, and we traded goals. Leading 4-3 towards the end of the half, Inter fought back to get 3 goals to lead 6-4 at the half, with the last goal right before stoppage time. So with Inter leading 6-4 at the half, I scored in the 51st and then again in the 53rd to tie it at 6-6. Then like clockwork, Inter fought back with two goals of their own to lead 8-6. I came right back to make it 8-7 in about the 58th minute.

Now, at this point the match was full of counter attacks and scoring chances. However, the match took a turn at this point and it became a stalemate at 8-7 Inter. The next 25 minutes were filled with midfield play, cross passes, and defensive clearances. However, in the 78th minute, I made a huge mistake and had a player red carded and sent off for slide tackle that missed the ball entirely near the out of bounds line. I was devastated as I was down to 10 men against Inter and at this time in the match both teams were fatigued and did not have the kind of scoring chances seen early in the match.

Moments later following the red card, I managed to maintain possession and make a great pass to Cristiano Ronaldo, who was pulled down in the penalty area, and with refereeing set to "strict" in ai.ini, I was awarded a penalty. This was my chance to equalize!!! But, lo and behold, I clanked the PK off the top post and missed the penalty!!!

Then right off the penalty which bounced far back into play off the top post, it started an Inter counter attack and they made a great shot that deflected off my keeper and right to Figo who put it in the back of the net in the 81st minute. It was now 9-7 Inter and there were less than 10 minutes remaining and I was playing with 10 men. I exhausted my 3rd substitution by inserting Saha and changing my formation of a 4-4-2 (which was really a 3-4-2 with a defender sent off) and changed my formation to a 4-3-1-2, with Saha as the CF so I could sub out a fatigued midfielder.

Anyway, with the match winding down, in the 87th minute, they brought Rooney down in the penalty area yet a penalty shot was not called and I couldn't believe it. I was jumping out of my seat!! Luckily, a minute later, Rooney found space and scored on a rebound off of his own goalie deflection shot and that gave Rooney a hat trick and made the match 9-8 with only moments remaining.

As the clock approached 90 real time minutes, it showed only 2 minutes of stoppage time (thought there would be more actually) and I knew I only had a few chances. In stoppage time, Rooney had a point blank shot at the equalizer which beat the keeper but rolled just wide of the net.

Then Inter kept possession for a majority of the stoppage time, and finally the whistle blew with me desperately trying to equalize in the 93nd minute.

Inter 9, Man U 8 at Full Time.

What an incredible match this was. I dominated Inter in possession 63% - 37% and had something like 42 shots on target to only 18 for Inter, but Inter was so good in counter attacking and they also scored on a set piece that hit the upper left corner of the net. They made their chances count and both goalies played exceptionally well given the pace of the game despite the amount of goals scored. (except for one time where my keeper punched it out on a few yards right to an inter defender who put it in the back of the net.

These 90 minute matches are exhilarating in this game. The CPU on world class plays a very challenging match. They make great passes and force you to defend all the time.

I really am happy with the tweaks I have made to the ai.ini and the fatigue system really works in this game. By the second half, both teams were tired and couldn't generate the kind of scoring chances they had in the first half.

An absolute classic match and I am about to play another one.

Amazingly brilliant football found in UCL 06/07. I don't think it gets better than this game. I really don't.

Ugg boots (sometimes called uggs) are a style of unisex sheepskin boots lined with wool on the inside and with a tanned outer surface. Ugg boots often have a synthetic sole, although this is not universal. Discount UGG Boots deserves great reputation. Heights range from around the ankle to above the knee, they are available in a range of different colours as both slip-on and lace-up varieties, and they are produced by a number of manufacturers. The natural insulative properties of sheepskin gives thermostatic properties to the boots: the thick fleecy fibers on the inner part of the boots allow air to circulate and keep the feet at body temperature. These famous ugg boots includes UGG Classic Cardy Boots, UGG Classic Tall Boots, UGG Classic Short Boots. This means that ugg boots can be worn without socks even in relatively cold weather.

Hey champ, I have downloaded UCL 06/07 but I'm having trouble in making it into a full 90+ match. Can you list the mods that you have and a step by step guide on how to make it like you have it like you did on FIFA 10? It was really detailed when you showed us how to do it there but I need a little help on UCL 06/07.

A million thanks in advance!

I managed to get a continous clock, it's really cool to see that clock ticking away! The only thing is when I tested it out is that the goal keepers are so aggressive way to easy to score on them.

Great to hear. You used CLOCK=3 in common.ini? As I referenced in another thread, you should also be able to use HALF_LENGTH=45 in common.ini instead of HALF_SECONDS=2700 if you reset your game settings in-game. The reason why HALF_SECONDS=2700 can be a problem is if you go into extra time. Extra time is 90 minutes long with HALF_SECONDS=2700. (each half 45 minutes instead of 15 minutes) So unless you are not playing with the potential for extra time, you probably want to change that.

Yeah. There are many solutions for that, but some can have GK glitches if you are not careful. I have an old set of GK a.i. from when I used to play UCL0607 that improved that problem somewhat, but I also have improved GK a.i. values in my ai.ini file in FIFA 10 PC that should work in UCL 06/07.

Do you have MSN messenger? PM me and we can see if some of my GK a.i. values fix that problem for you in UCL 06/07.

I managed to try the new parameters before I went to bed last night for like three minutes and unfortunaly I noticed that the clock went back to its old stopping ways and going fast. I don't understand it I didn't even touch the game clock settings I left it blank like you said, still though I might of done something wrong with the whole resetting of profile to old settings. Right now I'm on campus so I won't be able to discuss and modify the parameters and to see what went wrong until tonight, but from the 3 minutes that I played the A.I seems more realistic, my defensive players seem more realistic, it's more of a steady passing game attack, rather than the fast FIFA that I'm used to so I'm really excited to play a full 90+ minute match and really test that new GK A.I that you gave me.

I really appreciate you helping me with this Champ757, this is all impressive stuff for UCL 06/07 this modding thing isn't as complicated as it sounds as soon as you get that hang of it.:innocent_smile_1:

Great game

With the new gk values that Champion757 has given me I have pretty much almost simulated and played a realistic 90+ minute match, that if played to the fullest these games could end in either 2-0, or 3-2 in full 45 minute halves. It was tough, we had to get forever for these keepers to be in the borderline of aggressive and conservative but I think I'm pleased with the balance that we've strucked.

Both me and Champion 757 have been working on this game for weeks now, i've been testing his values in defense and I'm very satisfied with the way my defense is stopping attacks. I can't begin to tell you how satisfying it is for me to turbo boost all across the defense and have it taken away easily and have the defense make me work and pass the ball around them, to find holes and attack that. It's very rewarding to get a goal because you might as well have very few of them, it's hard to score.

I still want to test this game out for a bit now and talk it over with Champ757 and have him test it out to see if he finds it satisfactory, if we ever realease these ai.ini's it would be in his discretion since it is his game that he has created, but this game is 85% ready for 90+ minute matches.

**UPDATE**

So far, it's about 90% done. The only obstacles that are left are the defense, and the way the ball bounces when a full power shot ricochets off the keepers hand, it seems like it has more weight than it should and I have been messing around with BALL_GRAVITY but so far little success. The reason why the game is still not capable of having 0-0 halftime scores is because the ball is put in on a rebound off a great long shot or close range kick that is put in by supporting attackers. It's frustrating because now the defense is sticking out like a sore thumb when they don't have the awareness to hustle to the ball and clear it out.

If anybody has any ideas on how to fix it this, the help is more than welcome as I, and Champ757 are doing all we can to get this game ready to go and release the ai.ini to you guys.

Happy gaming.

Preview of 45 min + Stoppage time of Gameplay

For anyone intersted I have posted a half of UCL 06-07 gameplay with a running clock and stoppage time. The defense has been modified to be stingy and be tough to beat in the goal line. Check it out.

Good morning, has anyone solved the problem here commented on that the ball looks gray during the night games? I also noticed in the challenge mode, that at the beginning the central circle of the field appears gray and shortly it turns white ... It is a pity that this game so worked in some aspects have such obvious errors. It looks like you're playing with balls of cement ...
