Stop being off topic Sir DD!!!

I have a hope for what episode 10 could be and it involves like 4 major things, but I don't think any of it is going to happen, maybe one.

Well I'll be damned.

Battle of Winterfell/Theon escaping with Sansa
Jon Snow dies
Danaerys is found by the Dothraki
Cersei's walk of shame

Knew this happened in the books so was assuming it would happen at the end of this season...

Hope he's alive, just as most of the people who read the books are hoping he's alive too. TV series seemed to make it look less likely though

I hope Melisandre revives him so we can see a new side ti Jon. Perhaps he can go the Stannis route or maybe seek revenge on his betrayers. If he's gonna remain the boring goody two-shoes he's been so far I'd rather he died.

He's not going to abandon his job on the wall. He's a man of the Night's Watch and understands the threat from the White Walkers. Abandoning that to seek revenge in Winterfell is not in the cards in the show.

He's gonna stay and be lord commander of people who stabbrd him and don't trust him? Gonna be real useful that way. I can see him leading the Wildlings but more of them vs. Night Watch drama is just gonna be morr boring.

There's also the chsnce that whatever Meli does xhanes his personality. I have ni faith that Snow will become a more interesting character but one can hope.

Also heard an interesting take that I never considered before. Jon Snow is dead. His watch has ended. He has been released from his oath.

E: And I never said he would continue to be Lord Commander, or even remain in the Night's Watch. I think he takes his vows to protect the realms of men very seriously, and if he has to leave the Night's Watch to do that he will; that's the same reason he killed the Halfhand and "joined" the Wildlings. I don't know what will happen with Jon, but I am positive that he will remain singularly possessed by his mission to save the world from White Walkers.

If he feels the best way to accomplish that is to lead an army of Wildlings, take Winterfell, raise the Stark banners once again (remember, Robb DID technically name Jon his heir before his death), and dedicate the people of the North to fighting this threat, he'll do it.

I should get a new shoe for the summer. The Wire, Sopranos, True Detective, maybe some other nee show? Also curious about Girls. Mad Men maybe just for Brie.

Remember I made a post a while back about how I tried some of the most famous/well received TV series' (The Wire, Breaking Bad, House of Cards) and was generally very disappointed in them? I basically said that if this is the best TV has to offer, then it is still nowhere near the movies and that all those people who say it is are talking out their ass.

Well, I finally watched a modern American TV show which did really impress me, and did live up to the hype. That show is True Detective. Just the first series (the new series is just out and judging by the completely different cast and setting, has nothing to do with the first one) but it was a really great piece of drama. Because it's only 8 episodes long, and not 80 episodes like some of the others, there is no filler, no time for it to get repetitive or dull.

This is the first time I have actually been impressed by one of the new breed of 'TV behemoths'.

Which is a tv channel.

more seriously, HBO budgets are incomparably ridiculous compared to regular-ass TV ... it's not a fair fight, hence the official tagline ...

Yeah but this was the point that I was making, people were arguing that the elevated tv budgets, pioneered by hbo, meant that tv shows had reached and possibly even exceeded the movies when it came to quality of stories and entertainment. My previous dips into tv, in order to test this theory, including the wire which is an hbo show, all led me to the opinion that that was utterly false.

HBO is not at all a pioneering model that cable TV follows ... TV has commercial breaks, and the writers have to write towards and around them ... they can't plan out story arcs, because weekly ratings determine the fate of actors, showrunners, budgets, etc. ... so most of the time, they're just doing sh!t on the fly ... their timeslot also plays a crucial role in what content is and isn't allowed, with the wrath of the FCC always in mind ...

HBO, and more recently Netflix, aren't burdened with any of that ... they can plan out a whole season's story arc, and execute it; they can pace their content as they please, and run for a full hour; they can hire movie star actors; they can film on location; they can be pornographic; and so on ... some of their stuff is going to be a miss, but most are usually a hit ...

not sure what hype you're reading into, and where it's coming from, but I think you're missing the point ... something like Game of Thrones needs an HBO budget to look palatable, and it would be a far lesser story if it were compressed into a movie ...

I don't watch regular TV any more, but I do occasionally watch HBO productions on demand -- True Detective and GoT, really ... same applies to Netflix; I've only watched 2 of their original shows ... I personally think the British House of Cards is better than the US version ... Daredevil is a masterpiece ...

apropos, since you watched True Detective, what do you think of my sig?

I think you've missed my point. I'd heard people make the exact same arguments you make about HBO and Netflix (and there must be some others, I don't really know my american tv networks but Breaking Bad was not on either of those channels I believe) so I decided to check out for myself and see if it was true and, prior to seeing True Detective, I had seen nothing which suggested to me that this was true. If my use of the phrase 'TV shows' is confusing you, you can substitute in 'small-screen shows'.

Yeah it's cool, though to be honest I dont think I would have picked up the connection unless you had mentioned it!

Depends on the movie, and depends on the TV Show.

I think relatively (compared to say 10-20 years ago) there is so much quality TV, and not as many quality films.
