I suck at them, just plain suck. I always wind up offering at least 10 mil more than the player's worth. Can anyone give me any tips on how to haggle? I'm always playing with Chelsea because I don't have to worry about the money, but it's getting rather boring.

You often have to pay (high) above their value if it's a player important for their current team. Besides you're Chelsea, you are rich, other clubs realise this and know they can ask a high amount, as you can afford it anyway. They want to get the most out of it.
To buy players for a lower amount, look for transfer listed players, or players with a back-up/rotation status. Also players with a contract running out soon, are cheaper. It's cheaper to buy someone with 1.5 years left on his contract, than someone with 4 years left on his contract. The other club wants to sell the player earlier when he doesnt have a long time left on his contract, preventing the player leaves on a free.

Yeah, unless a player is transfer listed they are going to cost a lot more than their "value". Gerrard's value is something like 30M at the beginning of the game, but as Chelsea you need 100M+ to actually buy him.

Yea that's because Gerrard is Liverpool's best player and they're Chelsea's rival. But normally a 30M worth player shouldn't be so expensive. I usually get players like that for 45M. I think that the best way is to buy a player is to keep bidding higher until they accept or until you think it's getting too expensive.ShiftyPowers said:

With high reputation players they'll always get you pay 10+ million more than their value. If you look a bit lower down you'll see alot of quality players who aren't (that) known in the world. You will still have to offer more than their value but not as much. Also as others said most transfer listed players can go for an equal or lower price than their actual transfer value.
