We need a striker who can finish, Van Horse face or Shearer(back in his day) would have scored 40 goals if they were playing for us this season.

Flamini should go...though he gives all his heart and soul for the cause, for me he just doesn't seem to fit the arsenal mould for some reason...

As for strengthening the team Maybe arsenal should get a target man ?? Even though arsenal play pretty football and dont often cross so to speak when they do wouldnt it be useful to have a striker who can header?
And as for the recent under-achievement I'd say its just a lack of depth once the mountain of suspensions and inj took its toll...wouldnt it be nice if he had a SWP forever warming the bench?

I don't see Flamini as being as much of the problem as some of the younger African-French players. Their finishing is apalling and I can't help feeling that Arsenal could have had more goals if guys like Eboue knew what to do with the ball once they're given a scoring oppurtunity like in the Bolton game.
For me, Wenger is just plain stubborn sometimes with his signing policies because of the whole 1-year contract renewal thing for guys over 30 (goalies like Lehmann shouldn't be included in this because they peek well into their 30s) and he should really stop trying to build the youngest possible winning squad. It's fine to buy younger players but when you're in a position where you can sign players like Rosicky and compete for the short term trophies as well as the long term then it's not a good idea to try to put the team in a transition.

Finally we get help from luck and our midfielders.
You could tell by the celebrations how much those goals meant to Fabregas and Rosicky. Hopefully they've learned how to finish and can keep scoring :)

Mate, Rosicky's always had the finishing if you watched Bundesliga. It's just that when you enter the Premiership, there's the added pressure when you have the ball because of how tight space is and how fast paced it is. He's not the sort of clinical finisher in the 18 yard box, more like the player who scores the stunner from midfield like Gerrard.

I know, I can't believe he did not score the goal at the end! Anyway, Arsenal deserved the win, although I must say ManCity did play well, especially at the end of the first half.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has sent a hands-off warning to American billionaire Stan Kroenke over any potential takeover of the club.

Kroenke recently bought 9.9% of Arsenal and also acquired more shares from major stakeholder Danny Fiszman, sparking talk of a takeover.

But Hill-Wood told the Guardian: "The shareholders would prefer to stay in control than sell out to some stranger.

"We would be horrified to see ownership of the club go across the Atlantic."

Hill-Wood claims that he and three of the club's major shareholders - Fiszman, Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith and the Carr family - have "no intention of selling".

He added: "These people love Arsenal, they are independently wealthy and do not need the money. Having a few extra million pounds in the bank is of no interest to them.

"We're here for Arsenal football club, not to make a few bob. The club has been run for the benefit of supporters, staff and players."

What's with all these players at Arsenal saying that if Wenger leaves, then they leave too? Sounds kinda immature to me, like they are scared to be under a different coach other than Wenger. I wouldn't want a strong team to crumble and make it a three-team race next season.

Wenger on Luk out for keeper

ARSENAL are closing in on a £2million deal for Poland keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The Legia Warsaw star, 22, jetted to London for talks and a medical on Thursday.

Arsene Wenger wants the 6ft 3in stopper to be Jens Lehmann’s understudy next season and sees him as the long-term Gunners No 1.

Fabianski was given permission by Legia to meet Wenger but the transfer terms have not yet been finalised.

Legia chiefs are trying to keep negotiations under wraps but the deal is expected to be confirmed this weekend.

They claim Fabianski was not at training on Thursday or Friday because of an injury.

Fabianski won the Polish title with Legia last season and is seen as a better prospect in his homeland than Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak.

He was selected ahead of United No 2 Kuszczak for the World Cup and has four caps.

Fabianski is vying with Celtic’s Artur Boruc to be Poland’s first choice and sees a move to the Emirates as the perfect step up.
