Adriano On Target As Inter Beat Atalanta

Serie A leaders Inter came back from a goal down to defeat Atalanta 2-1 in Saturday's Lombardy derby and take a seven-point lead into the Christmas break.

Mancini's men fell behind to a Doni goal early on before Adriano levelled with his first goal since March. Loria then turned into his own net to hand Inter their 11th consecutive league victory, equalling the record set by Roma last season.

Inter were delivered a double blow in the opening stages at the Meazza, losing Alvaro Recoba to injury before Cristiano Doni put Atalanta in front with a sweetly-struck volley from the edge of the area after collecting an Ariatti pass.

Julio Cesar made two good saves from Zampagna as the Bergamo Nerazzurri looked to increase their lead.

Inter's best chance of a first-half reply fell to young defender Marco Andreolli who was unlucky not to score from Cambiasso's floated pass.

Adriano went even closer five minutes after the restart, stabbing inches wide of the far post after Crespo got a touch to Maxwell's cross into the six-yard box.

The Brazilian bomber ended his goal drought with a deserved equaliser on 64 minutes, sending a diving header from a Figo cross past a hapless Calderoni.

Inter's second came 11 minutes later when Loria headed into his own net in an attempt to deny Andreolli after Figo's curling free kick took a slight deflection off Carrozzieri.

Atalanta kept the Nerazzurri defence busy in the final stages, Donati forcing Julio Cesar into a terrific save before Maxwell made a vital clearance on the line from Rivalta.

that goal chart isn't accurate as spinesi has 11 goals, for starters, i'm not sure about the rest
Yeah, sorry for my fault. Here's the current one:

Superstar
 (Y) Mutu

You play him as a striker and start him every game and this is what you get. I knew he would thrive at Fiorentina.

not really. I hate Inter and would rather see any other team win lo scudetto. next season Milan will win it so ;)

If Milan keep there style of play, with a departing Kaka` if they do not reach the champions league, (towards real) the maximum thay can get to is a streaight run for salvation....

Figo to join Saudi Arabian club

Figo became a peripheral figure at Inter this season
Luis Figo is poised to join Al Ittihad for an undisclosed fee from Inter Milan, according to the Saudi Arabian club's team manager.
"It's official now," said Hamad Al Sanie. "Figo will sign on Friday or Saturday and he'll arrive in Jeddah on 5 January when he'll join the team."

The 34-year-old former Portugal winger will sign a 17-month contract.

Al Ittihad are historically one of the most successful Saudi teams and are based in the Red Sea port of Jeddah.

Al Sanie added: "We chose Figo because he's a big star and the coach asked us to look for a midfielder and, after we suggested Figo, he welcomed the idea."

Figo retired from internationals after the World Cup third-place play-off with Germany in July - in which he earned a record 127th cap for Portugal.

Before signing for Inter in 2005, Figo played for Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Surely he wants to earn some money yet before he become retired. I'd do the same if I were him. But I thought he's gonna finish the season off at Inter.

Question Time Friday 29 December, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter boss Roberto Mancini was one of several Coaches questioned by Italpress about the season so far – find out what they had to say.

The survey, which was based on four questions, has shown that Catania and Atalanta have been the revelations of the season so far, while Milan have been disappointing.

Roma is undoubtedly the team which plays the best football, although Mancini’s title mind games – not to mention his link with the club – may have played a part in him choosing Lazio.

Football Italia also expects that Mancio quite enjoyed putting the boot into Milan, as he chose the Rossoneri as the disappointment of the campaign so far.

Strikers Amauri, Adrian Mutu and Cristian Riganò are among the top players of the season.
