FT: Inter 3-2 Fiorentina

Zlatan nabs the third after a nice pass from Cambiasso. Toni got a brace to make it interesting. Mancini takes of Matrix and Toni promptly nets twice :nape: . So far our defence has looked unreliable this season. Still I am very happy with the result.

Important win.

Great first half.

The only mistake was send Cordoba after Toni.

Crespo had a good first half. And Zanetti in the left did a decent job.

Cool pic.

up to the 3rd inter goal they seemed unbeatable, and they were playing pretty good football too. Short passes that are unusual for the serie A. i really liked Inter till Fiorentina scored the first. The interisti looked scared, as if they were really going to sucomb to Violas comeback.
Toldo is good but he is not the one used to be, probably because he was playing in Florenz where he became famous.

Cambiaso was the MoM, sheer brilliance. He can built up actions and surprise surprise even finalize them.

ibra was way better than his last Juve half of the season i am sure. i think the change of team did good to him.

We will have an extremely hard time against you in the CL. :jambo:

Fiorentina 2-3 Inter: Cambiasso (2), Ibra (1)

Esteban Cambiasso scored twice and set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the other as Inter opened their defence of the title with a 3-2 win at Fiorentina.

Ibra netted his first goal in black and blue after Cambiasso's first-half double, with Luca Toni scoring twice in ten second-half minutes to set up a tense finale.

Cambiasso broke the deadlock after ten minutes of play at the Artemio Franchi, finishing off a flowing passing move involving Dacourt, Crespo and Ibrahimovic with a low left-footed drive into the bottom right corner.

The Argentina midfielder celebrated his goal by pointing to the sky in honour of Giaincto Facchetti, for whom a minute's silence was observed before kick-off.

Cambiasso doubled his tally four minutes before half time, heading Figo's cross past Frey at the back post after the Portuguese winger combined with Ibrahimovic in a counter attack down the right.

Hernan Crespo had two good chances in the opening forty-five minutes. After sending a near-post header from Figo's free kick just over the bar, the Argentine forward forced a save from Frey with a blistering diagonal shot.

Ibrahimovic thought he had made sure of the points on 62 minutes when he volleyed in Cambiasso's assist to put Inter 3-0 up.

But last season's top scorer Toni made the Nerazzurri sweat for their victory, heading in crosses from Mutu and Reginaldo to throw Fiorentina a lifeline.

The Nerazzurri held on for victory, and Figo could have restored Inter's two-goal advantage on the stroke of full time but he dragged Crespo's cut-back wide of the far post.

MANCINI: "GOOD WIN AT DIFFICULT GROUND"

Roberto Mancini analysed Inter's 3-2 victory over Fiorentina in a post-match interview with Italian TV network Mediaset. "All goals are important, especially when they are decisive for the result," he said. "The most important thing this evening was to start with a win. We are just at the start and our fitness wasn't optimal, particularly that of the national team players who are still a bit tired.

"We did very well for an hour but then we thought we had won the match and this was a mistake because a goal can reopen the match at any time and give your opponents confidence and momentum. We should have been more careful. On the whole, though, we largely deserved this victory."

Esteban Cambiasso scored two and made the other before Toni's double as Inter collected their first win at the Artemio Franchi since March 2002. "They were a tough nut to crack because Fiorentina are an excellent team," said Mancini. They have the points penalty problem, but this is one of the most difficult grounds of the Serie A.

" Cambiasso did very well and he showed again tonight how perfectly he gets into spaces. Toni is a great striker, he scored two splendid goals. He was dangerous as soon as we retreated. He is very good and if he has the chance, he scores."

In reply to an observation made by a commentator that the score would be 0-0 at half time because the two coaches did not field very attacking teams, Mancini said: "I don't think a team with two strikers plus a half striker like Figo is a team that doesn't want to attack. Both teams tried to win the match."

ZANETTI: "HONOURED TO WEAR THIS ARMBAND"

"The important thing is to go on the pitch and be useful to the team," said Javier Zanetti after Inter's 3-2 victory over the Viola in Florence. "It was normal to expect a Fiorentina comeback but we held on and in the end we deserved to win because Inter showed that they really wanted the three points. It is not easy to win in Florence against a great team like the Viola. We must be more cynical, kill off matches immediately and try to not to make the slightest mistake.

Like Mancini, the Inter captain singled out Cambiasso for his brace of goals and assist for Ibrahimovic's third. "He is an important player for us. He has been playing at a high level for two years now and he shows his value in every match."

Zanetti dedicated Inter's victory to the late Giacinto Facchetti "This victory is for the great Giacinto Facchetti. It has been a week of great suffering for all of us. We are with his family. This is why I wore a special captain's armband. It is an honour for me to wear this armband that has been worn by Facchetti and all the great players this club has had."

CRESPO: "THE SQUAD COMES FIRST"

"We are proud of our performance, we played a great match and offered some good entertainment," said Hernan Crespo following Inter's 3-2 victory over Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi. "It won't be easy for anyone to win at a hard ground like this one in Florence. Many were worried looking at Inter's fixture schedule for the start of the season but we have started in the best possible way by beating a great Fiorentina.

"At 3-0 down they did well to take advantage of an understandable drop in tension on our part, due to the fact that we had used lots of energy. These things are normal at the start of a tournament. We were used to playing the big matches at a later point in the season."

Crespo, who played the full ninety minutes in Florence, added that the squad comes before anything else. "The most important thing is that the team manages to win," he said. "A striker obviously wants to score, but if he is useful to the team and these are the results, it's fine all the same.

"I'm satisfied that I played a lot of minutes. I know the season will be long and that sometimes I will also be on the bench or come on for just a few minutes. The main thing is to make sure you are always ready, leave personal things outside the dressing room and just think about the good of the squad. When you play for a great team like Inter you have to understand that you can't play every match of the season."

CAMBIASSO: "IMPORTANT WIN FOR THE CLUB"

Man of the match Esteban Cambiasso spoke on Inter Channel after scoring two and making the other in Inter's 3-2 victory over Fiorentina. "The two goals came from good team moves and perfect movements by the strikers," said the Argentine midfielder. "I got up from behind and found myself in front of the goalkeeper, and was lucky to finish off well the work done by my colleagues.

"We have won three important points against a very strong opponent. This evening's victory is important for all of the big Inter family because of the very difficult moments we have been through in these recent days. Today it was more important than ever to win well and with character to show we are one big family."

I think we can use this formation all season and rotate in the 3 centre mid position (Cambiasso, Vieira, Stankovic, Dacourt, Solari), maybe put figo and stankovic on the wings.

Why didn't Adriano play at all?

btw Cambiasso is great and Ibra scored a nice one, if this team gets more comfortable with themselves and the tactic it will rip appart teams, Ibra is really good at creating attacking plays and Crespo is a natural finisher... maybe Adriano will now get more space to destroy defences, before in the past there was too much pressure on him.
