The Eyjafjallajökull throw-in

I never thought someone would try that at the top level (yeah, it's Japan vs Iceland, but still). Does it really get much better range than a normal one? I don't think it's that much stronger and the lack of accuracy probably isn't worth it.

I like how they're all COMPLETELY useless except for a couple of them which are actually close enough for a decent throw-in taker to put it in the box.

Nothing new anyway, first time i saw it done was sometime in the mid 90's, surely was tried it before that too. As useless and annoying as Higuita's "scorpio".

I remember the first time I saw this in a youth game I was playing in the mid-90s sometime. It was the furthest throw-in I ever saw. But then I said to myself (as I'm sure a lot of kids did) "I can throw a ball really far in football or baseball, why don't I practice throw ins", and this kind of novelty lost all usefulness. I can't imagine why a pro would have to resort to this.

The Japanese crowd sure loves it though.

Seen quite a few of these. There's one in the Norwegian league who does this too, but he throws much longer than this Icelandic man.

Such a pointless technique. Just train a bit more in the gym and you'll make more of a difference than this does. Delap doesn't do this and it's more accurate and gets further distance.

I don't know. It seems more like showing off to me, rather than it having got some sort of practical function.
