I dunno if it was like this in Euro 2004 but...

Why are both games starting at 21:45 (Aus/Swi time, 2:45 pm est time)?

Before one game started at around 19:00 and the other at 21:45

I really wanted to watch both Group C games but now I gotta choose one :(

Not that big a deal, just don't see the point to it unless someone knows.

so the teams playing the second match don't get affected from knowing the outcome of the first one, seeing as it's the final match of the group stages.

makes total sense to me.

And it was this way in the EC 2004 too. I remember zapping between the Dutch and German TV, to check how the Czechs were doing against Germany, while Holland was playing Latvia.

UEFA actually did something to benefit the teams themselves (H) I imagine the pressure from the media companies was intense to ensure all games had maximum coverage, but I applaud UEFA for doing this. Mind you it's about the only thing they've done right in terms of fixtures - I hate the predetermined draws - I preferred it mixed until the final (group A winner plays group D runner up etc) Now you know certain teams will avoid each other.

It's been like this for several Euro and World Cups when it comes to the final round of any group stage.

It was introduced after the World Cup '82 when Austria and Germany played in a Group Game and Germany won 1-0 with both teams progressing.
There was an uproar after that because it looked quite blatantly fixed with Germany scoring early and both teams pretty much relaxing for the rest of the match.
