Someone who has O'Shea, Fletcher, Giggs, Anderson as midfielder. You can see how LvG struggled with the same team + 200 millions.

When Ronaldo left, definitely. The last UCL final in 2011 the midfield was Park, Giggs, Carrick and Valencia. This is very mediocre compared to Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta at their prime for example. He still reached the final and won the EPL.

Yes totally. I don't mind leaving out Barkley either - He looks good again under Koeman but we can always call him up later. The purpose of qualifiers (in a group we will win easily) should not be to just win every game with the same old players and then claim everything is great and fine with the NT (Roy) but to try different options and actually try to build a cohesive team which may not be the biggest names.

Rooney retains captaincy and will not retire until after World Cup, which I personally am happy about.

I think Kane is one of those players who will only be good when he has absolutely no responsibilities beyond that of scoring goals.

Yes agree on that for Kane - he should not be captain - but this is Ingerland and the manager is someone out of his depth so the captain will be someone like Henderson or Jagielka.

Can Shaw be a leader? I haven't seen much of a leader in him and he's still a kid.

I'd go with Smalling.

Smalling doesnt appear to be first choice at Man Utd so he can't be captain if he is not leading the line at his own club.

I can't be sure about this because the FA makes terrible decisions wrt managers but I would assume that Allardyce contract expires immediately after world cup and will only be extended if we have a good tournament, so he will go at same time as Rooney unless he is doing a good job and next manager can pick new captain.
